During an email exchange when i described a game crash i was asked to define the term "Dummy Spit mode",

here are the 3 main modes of MTW game crashes,

Sulk mode,
where it sits there, arms folded and won't tell you whats wrong,
if you manage to elicit any reply at all it is invariably "if you don't know whats wrong, then im NOT going to tell you.."

this compares favourably to Storm out of room and Slam door mode,
where the game folds up and CTD's without an error message,

but the most desirable type of crash is Dummy Spit mode,
where the game spits some type of error message at you as it bolts out the door and into the Landcruiser, managing to back over your MG on it's way out the driveway...
at least then you have a clue what you did wrong...

Of course there are other tantrums....

I'm not here, where you click on the icon, the intro splash appears, and the disc starts spinning, but the game never comes up. I picture the Splash and Exe having a conversation:

(Splash, answering the phone) "Hello. Oh, hi Wes." She looks at Exie, who shakes her head. "I'm sorry, but Exie isn't here right now. Perhaps you can catch her later."

This response can be generated by the smallest affronts, such as forgetting the quotes inside the brackets around unit descriptions.

Exie: "I can't believe you forgot the quotes. This proves that you don't respect me or value our relationship. I'm never speaking to you again"

And then there are the times when Exie is in a more "accomodating" mood, and you want to play one of your favorite games, only to find that she has hidden the chains and handcuffs. Early and Late Medieval may be there, but High has suddenly disappeared.

This too can be caused by the smallest things, like the mis-spelling of a single word.

Exie's; can't live with them, can't play without them.....

Sub Dummy Spit [B]
Can't Find[B]
This is the sub mode when the computer, after doing diddly all day decides, ok this is stupid, I'm not looking for any Early Knight, I'm just going to say "error can't find it"
Then it watches you rage and tantrum until the next door neighbors computer sends you a message saying "man you are good, the owner just phoned the police" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
They snicker as the police come http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Usually MTW just acts like a spoilt brat and won't work, but occasionally they produce a laugh....

Was modding projectiles.txt to produce a unit which threw grenades long way, but had only one member, a bit like mobile artillery, while testing I see the opponents (and my own ) infantry exploding in smoke++++++...... WTF I ask?..
.. I'd forgotten that the naptha throwers also got the enhanced grenades .... so hey presto they're throwing huge barrages of grenades over massive distances, quite spectacular if unrealistic...extremely bad luck if you're a humble infantry man looking for a long life....
