one thing thats been bugging me since ive started playing total war id the fact the 1 turn = 1 year. we all know that it doesnt take a year to walk across lower england...heck most of the european/asian continent could be traversed in a few years, give or take a bit....
i did try doing a search but simply found too many results to go through so im wondering if anyone has ever modded turns in this way or has any idea how to do it.
i think it would be suitable to have 1 turn represent 3 months instead of 1 year. that way if i want to head out the door from wessex to conquer the celts it only takes an year and a half round trip instead of 6 years...
much more realistic and reasonable to me, as well as the fact this would make the default build times more realistic as well (it does NOT take 4 years to build a merchants guild or whatever) and prolong the game greatly while provide more opportinity for battle and and shifting of power..
well if anyone agrees with me or can give me some positive news about whether its hard coded or not i'd love to hear from ya, and thanks in advance.

just to add to this idea (because im sure some of you would think this would totally unbalance the overall game) i realize that certain events happen at certain years and intervals, and what im suggesting obviously couldnt interfere with that for the above mentioned reason of unbalancing gameplay...
so what im hoping is that the game could be altered so that the year changes over after the program detects that the player has taken four turns(you wouldnt see the monthly date on the calender timer still, but you would notice that the year switched over after 4 turns) so in this way it will still be the turning of the year that determines when major events happen and the balance wont be thrown off...(and since the month wouldnt be show, the player could kind of assume whatever month it may be and helps keep it abstract so that it doesnt seem like important world events only happen on the new year heheh).

Greetings Xenomage, many would like this option, but it is not possible in the current versions of MTW , at least no one has figured it out yet LOS

Yeah it would be good for seasons, especially as it would add a lot more strategy to the Royal Family part of the game.
You can now get a guy into 4 battles per year, and just think how long its gonna take for sons to emerge. You'll really need to protect those royals because there won't be a constant stream of princes coming out. On the other hand it'll be nice too because the King will be able to live longer than 30 turns. Especially with the 56 year bug that exists right now.

thanks for the reply's. thats what i was afraid of though..oh well...
yes, that was another reason for my idea.. i didnt like it when i would get a ruler i was attached to, only to have them last a handfull of turns and participate in only a few battles..
in my opinion it was a very strange design decision for the devs to make regarding the length of the turns since taking 8 years to cross europe is pretty unrealistic...
if it was because they wanted the game to play out in a reasonable time frame i can understand, but in that case it would have been wiser to give players the choice of a long game or short game dictated by the turn lenghts..

Greetings xenomage and welcome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
1600 turns is a long game if you convert the current MTW game to seasons. STW covered less than 100 years, so you have roughly the same game length as MTW by using seasons. Truly a bummer as I liked the seasonal turns too.
If you want to create more turns you can just mod the start and end dates, however I am pretty sure that you would have to be able to crack the hard code to modify the turn length and to change date based events.
