View Full Version : SAM ON SUNDAY...
Hello All
The "Be a Sam on Sunday/SOS" event is still working nicely. I often see about 18 loyal shoggies on the MI server sunday evenings. The rest of the week 6 to 10...mostly the same players.
I'm (others also) wondering why most who got MTW/VI vannished from the Japanese battlefields altogether.
I know...it's sometimes hard to get in, it's sometimes a bit lonely, big games are sometimes laggy or crash and the average skill level is not what it used to be...but...it's still very nice to play what used to be the best game on earth.
Many prolly still have MI installed on their pc...if not...just reinstall it and pay those loyal shoggies a visit more often.
I will organise a 1v1 tournament on MI within a few weeks.
Hope to see some vets again more often.

if you must know im kinda happy that the newbies are arriving. new blood means more future vets. newbies like toga and others who have only been playing a few weeks are already up to par. *wink wink kas* tell your friends... newbs are very welcome and its good to see their skill levels rise. besides... there is a higher vet to newb ratio on MTW. i can't play a game on MTW without there being some newb with only 8 units and the rest artillery. and if you MTW/VI guys are tired of getting beat by lancers and varangian guards. (which you have to pick an army just to counter such units) come to MI it is completely fair on MI and SKILL wins battles... not superior units. you VI/MTW guys are really missing out http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I didn't try to insult new players Shim, in fact I encourage all to support them more (instead of bashing them).
I'm just wondering why all those guys who made this game very special left to MTW/VI (just to complain about it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif ).

Lancers and Varangian guard?? Who worries about them? You only get Lancers in Late era, they remain at their purchased valour level, they cost an arm and a leg and quite frankly they just aren't worth it. Varangian guards are just another unit. I always take the Horde in Late games....very rare do I see Lancers. Have you ever tried MTW/VI at 5k florin level? I strongly suggest you do as then you will find there is no all powerful unit. The problems arise in VI, as indeed they do in STW/MI, when you have enough money to buy too many upgrades. These upgrades ruin the balance ( Ashi's, Muskets, Militia Sergeants, Feudal Men-at-Arms, Pavise Arbalesters http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif )...Remember good old STW with its honour only upgrades?
STW/MI is far from perfect, the 103 Mod improved that no end but what happened?? Did the community take to it? With no guns to exploit the 103 Mod was cast aside as a Mod made by a certain group of people to suit the way they played.....What a sad indictment for such a good piece of work.
Why did people move to MTW and MTW/VI? It's simple really and it's the same reason they will move to Rome once that is released.
The way I see it is we have different outlooks. Some, like me, enjoy realistic battles in fact I would prefer armies to be less visible and further apart so we get some strategy entering the game. Others don't give a stuff what the unit is called and look for loopholes to exploit, hence we see arbalesters holding up heavy cav, or the 15k maxed out, pumped up, 8 sword units that kill anything in their path...
At 5k I can play a game that feels more like STW and I have to take care of my units because they are mere mortals http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I stayed at MI for 3 months after MTW release and watched the foyer become the deserted place it is now. I called in the other night and tried to host a few games which crashed which tells me EA have not improved.
Take a look at Barocca's thread here about the STW Mod for VI, proper STW units not the horrible Naginatas we were left with in MI. This is what interests me...more so than Rome. Look at the units, the detail, the horses...have they improved for RTW? The horses haven't that's for sure, good grief they were tricoloured in STW http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I really would like to see this Mod take off in a big way but I am not going to hold my breath, we have some very gifted people in this community who have the ability to turn out very good Mods.......seems people prefer not to use them, even when they don't like the ' official ' game.
What a pity

AggonyShim2,
I disagree. WE/MI v102 has some really glaring problems, and that's why you see the max 4, no ashi rule which still doesn't fix the fact that's it's a shoot and rush game as Annie:P aptly calls it. The players left when MTW came out because v1.0 was terrible and v102 was not as good as original STW. I personally found it a great relief to get away those rediculous guns in WE/MI by going to MTW. WE/MI multiplayer never exceeded 60 players in the foyer and was often more like 30 while original STW had a long period of over 100 players online. I'd play WE/MI v103 on Sundays, but every time I go there it's always v102 that's being used.

woah http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif didnt mean to flame you guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif i myself like the horses in Shogun more then i do in MTW but of course that is just me. we are just trying to bring more people back into shogun guys... i myself have never even used the new 103 patch cause i couldn't get it to work.. (i know tosa... im going to install it again soon http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif) plus... i love the naginata http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif if you must know im content with the 102 patch... but like you guys said... its my opinion. perhaps soon if (or when) the 103 becomes an official patch (i heard word that they were working on it?) there will be more 103 games. we just want to see a little more action in shogun thats it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
The Home of the Masterless will host a 2v2 tournament on MI asap. Ideas are welcome on our forum. I'll keep you informed.

Hi guys,
Put me down for the 2v2 Kas, I'll try and drag another Wolf in with me, or maybe even dig up Old Macajor http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I will return this weekend, been alittle busy lately. Gonna be rusty again, hehe, so looking to get hammered (just for a day or so, hehe).

A superb example of how to attack Aki performed by MizuYuuki and Togakure Ojonin...It was a pleasure to watch that attack http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif And an honour to be destroyed by such worthy adversaries....Thanks guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Must say that 4v4 defending against the Mizus was outrageously fun, even with the lag. Best 3 on 1 in game group hug Toga's ever had http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . My staunch warriors are drinking sake and toasting you all in Elysium right now, having achieved the glorious death in battle they have always desired.
1500+ kills Orda ... WOW. The most I've seen in a game so far. Well done
Hi Orda,
Hehe, I was facsinated by the half submerged horses, forgot Jochi and Yuuki were homing in me lol.
Great game, great fun, hey Orda, we won too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Cya soon.

Kansuke, as I was re-reading this thread I noticed you mention you'd like to reserve a spot in the 2v2 tourney, dated October 2nd. Are you still interested? This is the first time I've seen this, and I don't think Kas has or he would have added you. Mimesaka was under the impression that you weren't going to participate. Of course, you are welcome to. Shall I reserve a slot for you and a partner?

.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ..I just had a little chuckle when I saw your cav unit run down to the river Kansuke and sort of guessed what you were thinking.
" All this water and no bridges? Hmmm I wonder? "
That map is even better when it's a 4v4....watching all the units emerge is great fun, ask RTK Paul, we've had some great battles there and yes that was a very enjoyable game.
Hmmm starting to dream up a nice fun map for SoS....

Kansuke.......
Pity I didn't get to see the end of the game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
My game froze.
Last I saw was chasing remains of your units away.
Stabbed your General in the back as his horse was taking a drink of that lovely water http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well our 3v3 was quite laggy...but actually I like it that way, it slows the game down a little bit and you can make more accurate decisions and use more complex tactics...the camera and mouse jerkiness are annoying though.
Was a bit laggy, but seen worse...wasn't too bad (prolly because I was on the winners side http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif )
Was indeed a nice 3v3 (we won http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif ) Mimesaka and I managed to take the right flank hill (left for Mizu's point of view) while Toga hold the other flank. With the flank gone, we could move on to the centre together and other flank to relieve Toga's forces. Was good teamwork, but I'm sure Mizu will be ready for us next time. (errr...must get rid of that map to prevent that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif )
