Well, i think that the welsh are the strongest. The welsh bowmen are the best unit in viking era i think. And once melee starts celtic swordsmen will finish off whats left of enemy.

Vikings i think are really poor. I might play them wrong but so do a whole bunch of other guys as i have killed them using wales very very many times. Might be diffrent in a one on one vs good opponent though as a well performed rush is more likely there and thus the welsh bowmen can not be used to maximum effectiveness.

Not perhaps soldierwise, but Mercians start with advantageous position. I could expand most easily with Mercians. Soldierwise Vikings have Joms and Berserkers..the best.

I like Welsh and Picts. I have used others including Mercians, which aren't bad.

I prefer the Mercians and Saxons. The Viking lack strong cav.

I wish the Irish had a decent infantry.

Yeah, Welsh, I'd say.
Vikings need to rush in order to maximise their efficiency.
Also usable as support force in team games.
But Welsh bandits rank surpreme.
