I like the idea of having larger units and my main question is how do I change there size, plus if I do this I will have to change the price to keep everything in balance

What I'm planning on doing is increasing certain units and leaving some the same size to see if makes the battles more fun

Mainly what I'm looking at doing is making all or most spear class units 200 men and most of the basic shock troops either slightly increased or the same

For skirmishers I'm thinking of making javeliners to the size of 40 but take there stack from 4 to 6 this makes them more manuverable and easier to manage but will have about the same punch as 60 men because of the increased stack and I'll probably keep archers the same or decrease them to 50 except for longbowmen wich I might increase a bit since they had a big impact on battles historically.

Cavalry I won't change probably unless I decide to change the size of shock troops significantly to balance there power in battle

Thought of 2 questions after posting that first of all what is the max unit size I can make with the unit size slider bar in the options menu set at normal and second if I reduce archers to 50 instead of 60 and a faction starts with 60 archers do they get 50 or a total of 60 or do I run the risk of crashing upon startup

You can change number of men in a unit using GnomeEditor(column 8 - number of men in unit). I think that the limit is 960, so there is no problem with making all spear units 200 men. Happy modding oaty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Largest size a unit can be is 200.

I modded all my units to basically be double size, including royals, while still taking 1 turn to build. Siege weapons/ships etc still take a few turns.

Something to note:

Don't make Swiss Armoured Pikemen 200 men. Make them 199 but not 200. The problem is that when the Swiss faction emerges they use SAP's as their royal bodyguard. Thus, those 200 men become 201 when you add the King to it, and this crashes the game when you try a battle.

Remember if you make the units larger that if you play with unit size "large" or "huge" the units are scaled up. If this scaling creates a unit greater than 200 the game will crash You can of course, use the Gnome editor to make the unit "non-scalable" (just look for the appropriate column in unit_prod11.txt).
