This might seem like a really silly question, but how do these picture portraits work.

I understand that a -1 gives a randon picture, but I cant get anything else to work.

I have a number of picture of Kings that I want to use for my 100 years war mod, how do I assign a specific king to a picture.

ie Edward III how do I assign my first king to the picture king06

SW,
is this an expansion type mod?

if so you MUST follow the explanation in "Adding Expansion" to get the portraits in the correct location,
the double subdirectory structure IS required.
copy the following folder
Medieval\campmap\Portraits\Vikings
and rename the copy replicant

copy the following folder
Medieval\campmap\Portraits\replicant\Vikings
and rename the copy replicant (*yes a subfolder of the one you made above*)

i have not yet tried assigning exact portraits but i think the portraits are numbered upwards from ZERO,
meaning portrait King01.tga is portrait number 0,
if that fails try 01, then try 1

let us know if all those fail, and what - if anything - works,
about to go sleep, start work early AM.
later,
B.

If you are attempting to match portaits and names, that must be done via the heroes file and the portrait in question needs to be placed in the misc file of the heroes culture ie catholic etc. I do not know why I just no it works, so say I place a portait of Napoleon in catholic/misc folder and lable it misc08 I would then enter in the heroes file under the data for that hero the portait number 7 no 0 or anything else, if you attempt to use or setmaptexturesubdirectory this option will not function as it does not recognize subfolders for some reason, I have ran into this with NTW, I have spoken to Eat Cold Steel on this and he says the same no go with subfolders, we have used the portait override function to set up faction specific portrait folders and this works fine so far , if you try anything else and get it to work please share thanks... This is what the entry in the names folder details

FAMOUS_KINGS:: FN_BURGUNDIAN 5
//name no. c d p a portrait vnv
0, 2, 2, 5, 5, 1, 06, farmerking1
3, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, -1, attacker1
4, 1, 4, 4, 4, 5, -1, mightywarrior2
3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, -1, attacker1
1, 1, 3, 4, 4, 5, -1, lawman1

My assumption are as follows, please tell me if im wrong.

http://www.shadesmtw.com/graphics/kinginfo.gif
A. 0 - This first number refers to the kings name, in this case it is the first name in the list, ie
B. c - Assume refers to command - however the list only gives this guy 2 yet he has 4 stars
C. d - Assume refers to Dread - however the list only gives him 2 yet he has 4
D. p - Assume refers to piety - the list gives him five but the picture gives him 4
E. a - Accume the list gives him 5 and yes he has 5
F. portrait - This is what is says 'The portrait number correspond to a picture name in its folder, a -1 will give you a random picture' but I cant say that I believe it.....
G. vnv - Vices and ver......

Barroca I am reffering to VI2.0 when we match names and portraits via the heroes file they work fine until we declare the setmaptexturesubdirectory for our modded campmap in the startpos, this send the matched portraitys all screwy...Shades you are correct in what you have laid out in your post, I have not changed Kings portraits so far only Heroes but I assume they work the same...LOS

I too have tried to specify exact portraits and it didn't seem to work. I put one of the special portraits from the misc folder into the Catholic King folder and numbered it accordingly. I wanted it for King Cid of the Valencians. Although I specified the right number, when I checked the faction select screen Aragon had that portrait instead http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

BKB, The portaits have to be in the Misc folder for it to work and the appropriate number assigned in the heroes file, I had it working in VI until we had to use a subdirectory for the campmap which threw things off...LOS
