We all know there HAS to be some sort of invasion. Shogun had the Mongol Invasion, Medieval had the Vikings so Rome will need an invader.

Lets see the perfect expansion thats an invasion. I know RTW invasion from within where Romes political greed tears its own empire apart http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Nah - MTW takes a little part of hte MTW "universe" and turnis it into Viking Invasion - I reckon the neatest thing would be to take Greece and Asia/Persia and make a "Persian Invasion" covering 500BC-300BC.

It's also a prequel that fits with the pattern of the otehr 2 expansions being prequels.

I would like to a see a hun invasion expansion starting from 14 AD and ending somewhere in the 500's AD.also other barbarian invasions took place,an there was an Arab ruling Rome(Phillip the Arab 244-249 AD)

can't get enough of arabs heheheh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I still think the expansion will be Alexander, unless they're even more Romacentric than I think they are. Romacentric is a word I just now made up.

That was not an invasion, Philip was a general in the Roman army. He is mostly famous for having celebrated the 1000th anniversary of Rome with the greatest games ever http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

http://www.roman-emperors.org/philarab.htm

IMHO the most interesting period for a Roma-based expansion would be from 300 to 600 AD, this would cover the split of the Roman empire between East and West, the barbaric invasions in the hearth of the empire by Goths and Huns, and the Vandalic/Gothic/Persian wars of the 5th century. Could even be stretched a bit to include the emergence of Arabs http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

If RTW is as good as people think it is, then we might see several xpacs instead of one......depends on the market really.

Attila over Alexander......Huns, Huns, Huns, Huns, Huns, Huns and maybe Constantine the Great. Oh baby, start from Roman Britain and unite the ROMAN eMPIRE.

But how great would it be to play Attila and sack Rome?

Just the thought of seeing Hunnic cavalry galloping through the burning Imperial Forum would be worth the price of admission http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Attila the Hun and his merry band will not be in Rome: Total War, as the campaign dates for the pack are set at 260BC-14AD. These are basically the years of the Republic's rise to greatness, and its eventual demise (as a true Republic) at the hands of the Augustus.

As with all things developmental, these dates may change, but I would doubt that there will ever be a change of the magnitude needed to include the Big A and his Huns in the pack.

As to expansion possibilities, we've kicked a few ideas around. But I can't tell you what... not yet, anyway.

Yes.. Atilla and his band were very merry... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I would like to see that though, it would make things interesting as you get to play the Empire, not just a Consul's faction in the Repuublic which you can eventually form into the Empire.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

The main problem with RTW as far an ex pack is conserned is its title ROMEYou cannot have Rome:total war persian invasion cause there gonna be NO ROMANSJust greek city-states so the whole going back in time issue is merely esthetically impossibleWhat we are left with?Attila and his Huns of courseSo after breaking ground with the new engine RTW will do so to the CA's tradition by making the ex pack set in the futureBUT they can avoid this by simply changing the title of the game as they wisely did from Cusaders to medieval so from Rome to ANTIQUITY TOTAL WAR wich will give them flexibilty to choose ANY time frame in the past (to the current game timeframe) and any title... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

If they do this engine really well, it should last them a while with just minor upgrades, which means they can focus more on churning out content (probably one of the reasons it's taking so long to release RTW, brand new, very sophisticated engine, compared to most games) than the programming aspects.

One expansion/add-on/mod I would love to see is a Trojan war one, which I don't think has ever had a game made about it (maybe just those levels in AoM). What would be interesting is if, like the Iliad, it focused more on the kings, princes, champions and heroes than anything else. THis might actually be easier with that EA LOTR total war clone, since it will already be focused around heroes. Also if CA made it, it wouldn't even have to really have a strategic map, or instead of the traditional one, you could do stuff like pray, or make sacrifices to the gods for divine favours (which was a big part of the story). Heh, just a crazy idea.

Do keep in mind that the Hunnish war machine was by far inferior to their "followers", the Mongols. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Not only because it was earlier, but also because, well, it wasn't as effective. I would expect that Caesar's legions armed in the banded armor "invented" under Claudius' reign would've kicked their asses good. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
