View Full Version : Will Rome be repetitive for MP?

Well I think many people will agree that MTW online is a very repetitive game. Most people play high or late period games, which consist of a line of Pavis Crossbowmen or some Arab equivalent and a line of H2H behind them which usually have Militia Sergeants (V4) and Chivalric Men at Arms (V3 for 15000k game). Then after that you have the long lines of Chivalric Cavalry etc. The battle starts, you have a 1 hour shoot out with Pavs or archers (Very boring) and then once you lose the fire fight you advance your line of men to their deaths. I mean the only interesting part seems to be the army choice and then it’s just your daily routine of trying to win.
If Rome: Totalwar is like this then I will be very disappointed. Realistic warfare needs variety, MTW is not realistic in any sense because it does not offer this.
So I hope Rome will offer allot of variety in tactics etc because MTW is very limited, people will just use the same tricks in RTW as they did in MTW, which will not bode well for new comers

I definitely disagree with your idea. It is not the game that is repetitive, it is the players. The players insist on proven tactics instead of finding their own hence making the game a routine. If you dont want it to be repetitive, for a change, host a game with no pavs allowed, hilly map, forest map, desert, higher or lower florins . That should be satisfactory enough.

Vanya sez... BRING BACK THE FOG

Fog made for interesting battles in Olde Shoggy. Nowadays, all youz can hope for is a little rain to wet the guns...

Vanya sez... Vanya expect most peeps in RTW to "go Roman". Load up on heavy infantry and fight the typical battle. Plus, youz have FOUR Roman factions... HELLO

It of course, depends on how well things are balanced out. If you have many units, youz need several that can fill similar duties.

Vanya sez... The 'phant rush WILL happen on the first day of MP play in RTW. This is written in stone.

Vanya sez... in MTW... as in STW... In 1v1s, anything goes. You have more freedom to pick your strategy and tactic. In 1v1s, you don't need a standard army to go out and win, because tactics can win youz the day.

BUT... in games with MORE playas that 1v1... Your victory is also in the hands of your allies. Taking the standard 4 pav alignment at least guarantees your tactics will be compatible with the expected ones of your allies. Nothing like taking a rush army and having your allies choose to sit idly by popping arrows... You attack, get ganged up, then its 4v3... your team loses. You sit back, and they snipe youz to death. Plus, with larger games, the various armies take up the whole field of play, so there is little room to manuever... other than huddling in a corner or frontal assaulting across the gap.

So... if maps are BIGGER... and men either fatigue more slowly or recover a tad quicker when standing around and doing diddly squat, then this will be good.

BIGGER maps give larger game armies more room to manuever.

And, it would be nice to see what your allies are buying while you pick your units... that way you can assure yourself of picking compatible armies. "Oh, my gracious ally just bought 16 naked peasants. Hmmm... better get more of the same now so we can charge together" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Well... this even happened in Olde Shoggy... its just more noticeable here because of the larger number of units... And it will happen again... to what extent, we'll have to wait and see.

Will people want to join? No.

That means those people who are not joining arent worth the fight anyway. I assure you there will be vets wanting challenge like you do.

have a castle map with about 3v1 with you in the castle and call it "Come get some" or "Who wants a piece of me?" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I understand it may be repetitive, however if it is real time (which has been what all sources have been pointing to, especially the release date) then there most likely is going to be a MP campaign. If there was a campaign in MTW or STW or VI then it would be terrible, and un managable, however with real time it must be alot simpler http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thats not to say that it would be bad if there was not a MP campaign, because I think that single player shall hold my attention long enough. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
