View Full Version : Your weapon of choice/Armor of choice

Melee weapons and bows/slings etc. only
No guns, lasers, missles, imaginary weapons, spells etc

Only pre 1500 armor too

I choose a no-dachi with a straight blade, sharpened on both edges and made of the finest steel.

For armor, i would wear a suit of flexible metal scales sandwiched between layers of leather and silk and a roman style helmet.

I'd take a pen and paper for armour http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

-Gladiator helmet (the one with two slits for the eyes)
-Slingshot (just in case the crossbow jams)

Roman legionnary kit always seemed very practical to me - high protection (esp. from the shield) that is not overly cumbersome and a short sword that could be lethal with I suspect little training.

If I were an athlete, as I believe the most proficient Medieval combatants effectively were, I think full plate and a halberd would be hard to beat.

And lots of arrows.
And a very good horse.

Depends who you're fighting - "Baghdad Bob" didn't do too well vs the Yanks, and he's out of the designated time frame anyway http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

For a universal soldier I'd take a heavy horse-archer/lancer kit - powerful composite bow, light kontos, sword, metal armour for most of the man and at least the front half of the horse, shield.

Capable if fighting close or distant, as well armoured as can be expected in the era, and a common outfit for hte obles of many tribal societies as well as Byzantine and other cavalry.

Hmm...

-a broad battleaxe
-a big, round shield (not hoplite-size though)
-a helmet with a noseguard, earguards and the chinese neckguard, and a plume to look impressive :P (interlocking plates that allowed more neck movement and generally looked cool)
-heavy chainmail with stragetically placed plates
-as a secondary weapon, a two-handed sword

kataphraktoi
10-16-2003, 18:42
Weapons:
A light Rhompaia blade (two handed blade)- like a Naginata
A mace inside a leather pouch attached to the belt
A paramerion blade (one-sided curved blade) attached to the belt
A persian/turkic bowcase and composite bow with extra strings in a pouch
A cache of arrows - no more than 20
A dagger (Indian design)

Armour:
A 12 inch shield attached to belt: optional for melee
A helmet with a mail hood attached, nosepiece in the center
A 3 suit of lamellar: one for torse, waist and sleeves
- lamellar will be backed by hardened leather undernath with an interior of silk with chain mail sown in gaps.
A mail suit or lorika extending to the knees (Avar style)
A pair of splint vambraces for arms
A pair of greaves in splint fashion

Armour for horse:
Frontal armour for head, neck and front legs only
A clothe will cover the rest with light lamellar plates covering certain areas

Overall, a cataphract/clibanarii composite archer/lancer or missile/shock trooper.

"Armor" would be complete intelligence, "invisibility," and a variety of disguises and practiced behaviors. At night, while operating, a shinobi shozoku.

Weapon of choice - a gun. Preferrably big, with rapid fire, and a built-in grenade thrower.

Armor of choice - a tank. Preferably big, bad, heavy and unstoppable.

Oh, don't forget lots of ammunition for the tank as well as for the gun.

Armour - gothic, maximillian or 3/4 16th century (the black and white laquered stuff

melee - Scottish basket hilted broadsword, or its Italian cousin - the schavioni???

missile - hard one this - as a Welshman I'd feel it's my duty to opt for the longbow, but I think I'll settle for a set of wheel-lock pistols.....

One of those Chinese repeating crossbow thingys...
A heavy duty arbalest (in case some nutter in heavy armour turns up)
A few small, concealed crossbows (last ditch)
Plenty of bolts (with a hint of curare)

Anything gets close enough - must be wearing a whole lotta armour. They'll be slow. I'll run away.

I might bring a sword of some sort... just in case.

My theory is, make sure everything happens over there, not here.

Lemme re-decide...

A castillion sword (hand-and-a-half or 'bastard' sword, useful for both stabbing and slicing [and thus narrowing along the length of the blade to end in a sharp tip])
A kiteshield (to maintain the delicate balance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
Italian Barbute helm (a plume on it would be nice)
Suit of Gothic age (French) full plate mail
And auxiliary weapons that I would leave in my tent (I would be a knight after all):
Pole-axe/Halberd
Morningstar (affectionally called "Skullkisser" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
Warhammer (for on horseback)

And of course the obligatory horse and horse barding plus nice horse 'robe' (tell me the name >_

2; 20 inch blades, reasonable handles, but very elaboratly decorated ont he blade, and handle. LOTR swords are aweosme, with the styl of elvish. when i was little we used to *sword* fight...lol, i woudl alwyas kick there butt with two...even if they had two, or if they had a *shield*

armour, would be light, very light, in order to use two swords...you have to be flexible....and fast.

for a design, and i can settle for the lenght....the Sting sword from LOTR, i got one for xmas....would be my ideal sword
