Gothic Knights have about the heaviest armour in the game and you sent Saharan Cavalry (very light cavalry) against them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

What did you expect? Their swords would barely have scratched the armour of the GK. Saharan cav are good at chasing down routers and enemy missile troops but not much else.

Speaking of Saharan cavalry, when I was playing the Egyptians and fighting the Almohads I came across this super unit of Saharan cavalry on steroids. They started by singlehandedly decimating a full unit of my ghulam bodyguards. Seeing that I charged my general's unit to the rescue, actually my sultan's full unit of ghulam bodyguards. By the time they reached the Saharan cavalry the first ghulam unit was about wiped out so the Saharans turned on the sultan, who fled for his life after a few seconds and got a horrid vice after battle. The Saharans then wrecked havoc among my infantry, usually routing them by just charging towards them and then slaughtering them while giving chase. I was just stunned. My chin sank as I watched in shock and awe how this pathetic unit swept the field of my quality troops.

In the end I had clustered my last remaining battered units of saracen infantry who huddled together to defend against this menace. All other almohad units had been routed. The Saharans walked towards them, but then lost heart and fled the field.

Saharan cav trained in Cyrenaica get +1 valour, combined with the ususally great Almo heirs they may well end up +4/ +5 valour. I believe the Egyptian sultan and his heirs tend to be mediocre at best, so if the had only one/ two valour, and also if you are fighting in the desert, the ghulams with their armour were alomost certainly hot and tired. So it is possible they beat up your ghulams.

Also Teutonic Knights are a LOT better than early/ middle ghulams.

I remember an VI campaign where and regiment of militia sergs killed 150 huskarls and the ms was outflanked. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif I was close of losing the battle because of this. I checked the log files for exact numbers.
