View Full Version : DeclareSeaRegion, DeclareLandRegion, Declare...

Guys, it's been so long since I've even looked at MTW because of work related issues (no other game has caught my attention, I swear) so after buying the "Viking" update, installing, and looking at the .txt files for EARLY and the others, I discovered some new stuff called:

(1) DeclareFaction

(2) DeclareLandRegion

(3) DeclareSeaRegion


OK, guys, now I know some of you have discussed these issues somewhere but I have to ask anyway, and find a way to let you guys know I'm not dead.

So what are these variables? Are they necessary? What is the best way to use them to improve playability? How do you use them? Why are they in the game? Any info on these topics would be helpful so I can resume making the 1092 mod more historically accurate.

Please, guys, direct me to the right sources. Thank you.

well, I have toyed with them and believe that editing them is essential to building a new campaign map.

Good news is, if you are using the original map, just copy the declare regions and factions into the new text file and everything should be OK.

Only change them if you want new maps...its not as simple as coming up with a new set (alas)

The only problem is that just editing them appears not to be the only thing one has to edit. Refrences to factions removed in your early.txt it seems have to be removed from the text files you reference with it, like the unit and building prod files, also - changing region names etc leads you to have to produce new loc.txt files for descriptions etc...it is possible but a lot of hard work...as yet I have not got a modded map to work, because I have some hidden reference to the Aragonese somewhere (or so says the game) which I can't find, It is the middle-earth map from last year I am twiddling with, if I remove the faction problems - I think I will finally have last years middle-earth mod finished - if I can find my hard-worked-on unit_prod files which were apparently lost in a computer re-install http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

OK, forget about everything else except, "DeclareFaction". What the heck is it? Why is it there now as opposed to previous version? What do we need to do in order to add another faction? What is the faction limit? Has anyone written a thorough explanation of this subject? Reference?
