Probably a bit of a newby question.

But what is the effect of setting the season to winter ?

Perhaps someone can give me a quick answer.
Thanks,
Nigel

It's newbie NOT to ask questions http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Units tire much faster in the winter(/snow), especially the heavily armoured ones like Heavy cav, pavise troops and heavy infantry (units with high armour value).

better take light cav than heavy cav in winter because they'll be exhausted&useles in no-time.

Quick enough ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

In winter with snow, desert and rainy conditions, armor comes in as a factor which increases the long term, standing, fatigue rate. It also probably increases short term, walking, running and fighting fatigue under those conditions, but I'm not sure. In arid, temperate and lush, armor doesn't change the long term fatigue rate or the short term walking and running for fine day. I'm not sure about fighting fatigue under those condition, but I think armor doesn't matter. My impression is that the incidental rain you get in temperate and lush doesn't change fatigue either. I don't know about winter without snow. I also don't know the effect of those desert sand storms on fatigue.

X-bows' and pav x-bows' (also true for arbs and pav arbs) fatigue rate in desert or in any map will be exactly the same. This is because shiled/pavise benefits to armor has no effect in fatiuge. Base armor of pavs is 3 just like x-bows, the pavise adds another 3 to armor but it doesn't effect fatigue. You can test and confirm this by running a custom battle, take x-bows and pav x-bows and max out time slider and wait. You will see they will tire at same rate.

And Yuuki, I really didn't know that rain was a factor for fatigue. You say not for incidental rain in lush and temperate, but what about arid? Could you be more specific about effects of rain please?

Kanuni,

I was thinking back to tests I ran in STW and WE/MI where rain storms increased fatigue for more heavily armored units. It was actually different for light, medium and heavy rain. The rain also affected the accuracy of bows, the reload speed of guns and the missfire rate of guns. However after checking this in mtw/vi, it doesn't seem possible to get continuous rain storms. All the rain seems to come and go at random, and I don't see any effect on fatigue. This is what I mean by incidental rain. All rain seems to be incidental now regardless of that message given during the weather selection.

Whatever the effects are, winter battles are great fun, people should host them more often

Vikings should have no fatigue changes in the winter... they come from a cold, wintry land, so..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks for the answers.
I shall try out some winter games.

I guess the difference between Summer and Autumn is that you are more likely to have a rainy day ?
Would make sense IMHO.

Rain still has an effect on pavise accuracy, doesnt it? It also makes gunfire impossible.

I havent tested it but experience tells me there are still some effects of rain.

DOH Oh I see you meant incidental effect on fatigue. oops.

try winter in desert or in arid, and you cannot count on the snow.

hehe, yeah... But then Nubian Spearmen should have a giant penalty. A shirt and a rope as clothes and coming from Africa south of the Sahara... They should die right away. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

vikings shouldnt be able to do battle in the desert then, they should either inmediately withdraw, or run towards the nearest oasis http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif.

Desert summer/ causes more fatugue to armored units than Desert fall
(the season and the location combine to generate fatigue effect) rain causes fatigue and all archers to shoot with less acceracy (except pave)
