Day of Defeat http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
I have been getting into the FPS/adventure shooters UT2003, SOF2, Max Payne, NOLF2 and Mafia. Great fun to blow a few heads off some pixels.
If you have a high end machine UT2003 is just mindblowing with the graphics. I have a P4 2.8Ghz, 512MB RAM with an ATI 9800 pro card and 20" screen - it rocks. Ramp up the settings and play at 1200x1600 - amazing.
The sports games from EA also rock - Tiger woods 2004 for golf and Madden 2004 for NFL. If you play Madden you need to get a gamepad with dual analog joysticks to use all the game features - it's worth the extra $30.
For strategy games I mix Total War with the Combat Mission series. CMBO and CMBB are very good "thinking" games - the AI WILL kick your butt if you don't use smart tactics.
Has anyone found any decent startegy games? I tried Hearts of Iron (HOI) - it SUCKED BUTT.

What about things like Ghost Recon? I love those squad based shooters. Nothing like advancing through a city in ruins, waiting for the enemy to pop out.
Halo PC, C&C Generals, Raven Shield, VI, UT2K3, Mechwarrior 3 Pirate's Moon, Battle Realms, AvP 2, and CounterStrike.

I don't play any other games - in fact, MTW was the first PC game I have purchased since the old RPG "Eye of the Beholder" - and, I'm guessing that was 8-10 years ago.
I'm actually looking for a game that focuses more on empire building than fighting....but, haven't decided what yet.

I will be getting Victoria as soon as its out...
its a paradox game, high strategy, during the victorian era, 1830 to 1920.
apart from that, to me, its looking a little dead at the moment.

Try Civilisation 3. The second X-pack is due out very soon and will add heaps of extra depth to the game. There will be 8 levels of play from Warlord(easy) up to Sid(named after Sid Meier the creator and beyond Deity ie impossible).
The game is mostly empire building, where you can decide how to improve your empire as far down as what field gets irrigated or mined. Fighting is done on a much more Macro scale. Good Stuff. WARNING it Addictive.
Just one more turn .....

Thanks - Civilization 3 sounds like something I would like - and, by the way, I find MTW pretty addictive as it is.

I stopped playing MTW about 6-8 months ago. Now just recently I got VI and am playing it again. It's great, but what really breathed new life into the game was medmod, a huge improvement, CA needs to hire Wes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . Also when I get tired of it, I still have to try the patrician and napoleanic mod which I'm sure will provide some good campaigns.
I hope CA is smart enough to realize easy and full access modding is the way to go and makes good on their promises for RTW. It really prolongs the lifespan of games (hey hey half life) which = more box sales and expansions for them, and makes for a much better community.
Edit: Oh yeah, and to stay ontopic...I played Shadowbane (just quit, wait 4-6 months if you ever want to try it, it's a mess now.), Infantry (kickass online action game, one of the best games ever), and Battlefield 1942 (probably the best FPS game ever)

WC3 TFT and MTW VI with various mods as well as the occasional game of AoM, which will soon be upgraded to The Titans... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
No fair, GilJay. I would be playing Rome:TW if I could too. Are you sure you don't need another highly qualified alpha tester? I am very bummed that I have to wait for another year to get Rome.
I haven't played MTW for several months but I have played with many of the mods and I had VI the day it came out. For that matter, I had MTW 2 days after it came out so I have gotten more play time out of MTW than any other game.
I was really waiting for Half Life 2 but now I am not sure when that is coming out.
Has anybody played the new Empire Earth game? Is it any good?
ToranagaSama, is Homeworld 2 any more intuitive than Homeworld was? I was terrible at the original. I guess my 3D spatial skills are not as good as my 2D ones are.
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming.

MOHAA Spearhead multiplayer, MOHAA Breakthrough, still playing MTW, really.
Halo CE is good, and well worth the 40 dollars I paid for it. Single player experience is very fun, with the best ai I have seen since Half-Life, but the level design starts getting boring towards the end, even as the difficulty jumps up. Halo multiplayer is fun, but very rough around the edges....no mic support, no ping data on players list, exiting back to main screen if you try to enter a game that is full (this leads to rerefreshing the games list) and just very unpolished. However, a good game is a good game, and these problems only diminish some of that.

Is Dominions I a pretty good game then? I saw that Shrapnel Games will be publishing the sequel and it looks very interesting, but I don't know anyone who's played the original.
Oh, and to keep with the topic, I'm currently playing Star Trek: Birth of the Federation. It's an older TBS; basically it's Civ in space. The Klingon Empire is about to fall http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Eh, define good... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
It's certainly not everybody's cup of tea, especially in today's world of 3D gfx, but I like it. Because of its diversity and enormous amount of gameplay options I tend to overlook the problems with interface and dated production values. Also, the good thing about it is that the demo is very generous (almost the entire game), so it's fairly easy to determine whether you like it or not by trial and error, and whether the upcoming sequel is worth looking into.
well, I'm playing halo and hope to soon be able to experiment with Crusader Kings.
Republic Revolution is quite addictive and gives you an ego boost quite like MTW.

If you want massive online carnage, wait until UT 2K4 comes out. Halo is fun online, but the interface is not very shiny and not very intelligently construed. Probably having to do with Microsoft's cost cutting measures again. The game didn't even come with a jewel case. Just a cheap paper thingy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Where can I get the demo at? The Shrapnel site said there wasn't one yet, although there would be one released in the near future.

Not sure what you mean, but if you had trouble manuevering in 3D space, then you might fight the new Relic maps more to your liking. The design of the maps seem to drive play mostly in 2D plane(s).
There's a thread in the Tavern where I made a quick review of the game. (Remember you don't have to be "good" to have fun!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif:

If I can find the time for it:
Medieval Total War Viking Invasion.
Europa Universalis II.
Panzer Campaigns I, II and III.
Most of the spare time I have left (which is way too little) though is spent on sports (American Football), and cleaning up my room so I can build models (right now 1/35 German WW II AFV's).
Im not playing anything at the moment and its killing me.I just don't seem to be able to find anything that strikes a cord with me.
My most recent buys other than CA games were Gothic 2, republic The revolution, Pirates of the Carribean and Pirates Tropico.(went through salty sam phase)
I also pulled out some of my older games to stem the bordom,Civ 3,Napolean 1813,Morrowind,Imperium Gactica 2.
Basicalyy played em all to death.Im not into shoot em ups and totally hate spotty games.Considring that most games coming out at the moment seem to be the latter 2 I dont have much choice.
Any ways im off to browse some gaming sites in the hope a jewl has escaped my notice.
I play:
EverQuest (OMG it eats my life arrgghhh arrgghhhh )
Medieval: Total War and VI (Of course)
Shogun: Total War (I use a weapon in EverQuest who looks like a Naginata and I can't resist to play Shogun when i look at it )
Napoleonic: Total War (I love muskets I love it I love it )
Day of Defeat (Better weapon feeling than BF1942 but I have a old computer so I can not play BF1942 the greatest game of all times in that genre )
Sim City 4 (and hopefully the expansion when I get my hands on it )
Sid Meier's Civilization III (and expansion and soon the second expansion )
Sid Meier's Colonization (Yes the game from 1994 I never get tierd of it )
And a bunch other game I don't remember, both old and new.
My biggest problem is that I got 6GB HD and EverQuest takes 3gig and Windows takes one. I have to uninstall games and install and uninstall and install and uninstall and so on. GAH Will buy a new computer (FINALY after 5 years) about some months... Gorgh... Can you belive that M:TW works on my Pentium 400mhz gforce2 and 327mb ram? =D

Its retro time for me.
Just bought UFO:Aftermath, so i'm starting to get to grips with that. Also, bizarrely, playing through Battle Isle 2 again via the magic of DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/).
After hearing everyone rave on about it for the last few years, i finally bought EU2 in a sale, and its an unstable messy load of old cack IMO. Possibly the worst UI i've ever encountered in a game.
