I am running out of heirs playing as the byzantines. My proposals are rejected by the princesses of the catholic europeans (bigots one and all)and the only surviving prince is a bachelor and not showing signs of marriage. The Emperor appears uninterested or is sterile.
Any ideas?

Australianus,

Don't worry too much. The game seems to help out when the heirs get a bit thin. As long as you keep your prince alive he will have some heirs when he takes over. Had a game where my king (late 50's, no cousins) finally had his first heir. Naturally I retreated him to an island guarded by assasins, spies, many troops and boats etc. nobody was getting near him till prince came of age. 15 years of crossing my fingers - my king died same years as prince came of age and i don't reckon that was coincedence as was oldest king i've ever seen.

Just don't get your prince killed.

A little tip if you get an heir when the king is old,
move him around in the provinces, they tend to live longer if you do...

So your oldest king was 65..? My oldest king ever was in 1.1... a king of 76 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

If all else fails

type .unfreeze. and an heir will be borne next turn.

make sure you give the heir 16 years to grow up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That's handy - my king in Hungary seems to be unable to get a son... two daughters up until now... and he's 51 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

My missus would testify otherwise http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I have had a Turkish Sultan knock up his missus at 76, he finally died at 82.

If you are in trouble use the unfreeze cheat, but usually the game seems to maintain around six heirs (sons and brothers)

Yeah, you could cheat, but you coudl also gamble and marry your only heir now to one of his sisters, if there are any present. Better to have inbred offspring and public outrage than a game over. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I don't think they actually will be husband and wife ... it will all be clasified as adultery.

They will be. The princess will vanish and the heir will get a ring meaning he's married and produce offspring at random. Try it. It's not adultery, it's incest. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I also had a Turkish sultan live until his early 80s - I think this was after I had built a College of Surgeons (Doesn't that add to the health of a general/king?)

My kings all die at 56 ( courtesy of Viking update). Will try .unfreeze. Where do you type it??

Australianus, download the new 2.01 patch, it fixes the death after 56 problem
And yes, you just type .unfreeze. at the strategy map screen.
