View Full Version : Wrong General/Governor receives V&V

Recently I have begun focusing on some of the smaller things in MTW. I have begun to notice that in some situations the wrong general gets credit for a victory or loss and the wrong governor gets a vice or value based on the province he is in.

1. Choosing the lineup for a battle. I often have battles where there is a specific general I want in charge. Sometimes this is not the highest ranking general in the province. I will place my general of choice in charge and put the higher ranking officer in the reinforcement queue towards the bottom of the list. The battle is fought with my general commanding and upon successful conclusion the uninvolved higher ranking general gets credit for the win leaving my general who actually commanded the combat SOL.

2. Fighting a battle where the general of my troops breaks, runs, and is killed fleeing pursuers. I've had this happen three times now and managed to hang on and win all three battles. Each time the "second in command" (next highest ranking officer) gets the good runner vice after the battle even though that particular unit nevered even wavered.

3. I always look for the unit with the highest acumen when choosing a governor. This mean that I often end up with 1 or 2 star generals acting as governors. I've begun to notice that the highest ranking officer in the province receives any province related V&V's instead of the actual governor if the general has a higher rank, regardless of whether or not the governor in in the actual province. I started noticing this because playing as the Spanish I had six and seven star princes that I was using to command the stacks acting as border guards in Navarre and Aragon. I was building up the fields in Navarre along with a church and monastery when suddenly the prince in Navarre received the builder virtue and the grain related virtue. In Aragon I built a port and the first two levels of merchants when the prince in command received the builder virtue and the dominant trader vice. Neither of the governors received any V&V even though they would technically be ordering the construction of these edifices. It seems to me that a governor should be in charge of a province and the highest ranking general should be in charge only of the garrison.

These are just some observations I've made. Perhaps someone else can post some of the things they noticed.

Jeebus....

I saw one of my Prince royals getting virtues for building and steward, and as you know, royals CANNOT be given titles

While you were studying game minutae, did you notice that you can 'farm' virtues?

First thing to know is that only those in command get considered for VV's. Thus, the best way to get more good virtues is not to stack units, but, to have them spread individually, 'in charge' of their 'stack', as it were.

To breed great fighters, look for those with 'Irritable'. These will advance to 'Argumentative' and a +2 to valor 'Chivalrous' can lead to 'Gentle Knight', a +3 to morale. Those dealing with numbers can lead to 'Master of Numbers', a great boost to acumen. 'Loyal' is nice, but, leads to the much better 'Most Loyal' and plusses to morale.

Likewise, vices advance to unsupportable disagreeability. 'Drinkers' lead to much worse drinkers, and stats. Likewise, "Sybarites' can lead to 'Gluttony', which is awful for stats. Just how do you calculate the value of a 0 valor unit with -3 to valor, due to gluttony? Better to never put them to the test.

Good stats lead to interesting combinations. I bribed a (former, turned rebel ) Egytian general with 6 stars whom I'd once defeated in battle. He came to me with 'Fine Leader' for +4 to morale AND 'Captured' for +3 to morale. I have him stacked with vanilla spearmen whose virtues like Chivalrous and Pride, Secret Pride, Argumentative, etc, have given me 6,7, and 8 valor spears, with as high as 19 morale I've just got to stack him with some elite units, just to see how high they'll go.

I'll answer number 2 for you, they both get the credit.
