Ive been scratching my head over this one, and wondering if anyone can give me some answers....before i installed VI, in my Turkish campaigns, you could build the Ottoman Siphai unit after completing a master horse breeder...but now i cant seem to find the unit anywhere? was the unit deblibrately taken out by CA? or am i just missing some marbles?
anyway help/info would be appreciated..cheers
In VI several specialized units are period specific i.e. the Long Bow isn't available in the early period (I think). The intent is the show that different ethnicities approached war in different ways at different times. The Turks have their strongest units available later in the game to reflect their growing might, whereas Byzantium is stronger early on.
This was actually corrected all the way back in 1.1, so York did you have the patch installed before you upgraded to VI?

Ottoman Sipahi are rubbish anyway in my opinion, Armenian Heavy Cavalry are a much safer bet as theyre available in early, have lower building requirements, have a +1 valour bonus in Armenia (a province you start with if youre playing early) and are generally better http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

well Phantom, your right about Armernian calvary being availible early on..but i think that ottoman Siphia, are a much better rounded unit overall...ive found that Ottoman Siphia being the medium calvary unit they are, can serve you pretty well. i use them as a all purpose unt, give e jobs of holding the line, leading charges and of course running down routers.. but if everyone thinks otherwise....being the newbie i am...ill be glad to hear
Pre-patch I used them a lot, low infrastructure and available in all provinces. But now they appear in late, and they just don't have anything going for them at that stage of the game. If they only had aa-bonus like the ottoman infantry........

Armenian Heavy Cav. are better simply because they have irresistible charge. For all the cavalery units theirs main weapons are the speed and the charge.
Personally, I rarely let my cav. fight. Only if the enemy is on the point of breaking or is a faster cav. than mine. Otherwise: charge, retreat, charge, retreat and so on.
The Ottoman Spahi have only a strog charge if I recall exactly, and this is the lowest value for the charge I've seen.

Ottoman Sipahi required a master horse breeder? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I don't remember that. Are you sure you aren't referring to Sipahi of the Porte? The Turkish royal bodyguard unit?
