Well heres the deal. I love early game because thats when you make or break your kingdom/empire usually. But once you have everything in place, trade, initial upgrades, etc..well then I just feel like each turn my moves mean less and less. Each upgrade is more cool than essential. And micromanaging each and every province can be a chore when, to be honest, you probably don't even have to. I pay close attention to my provinces at first but then I tend to get lazy and or hurry through my turns. The other thing that pesters me is how many battles I need to fight. I like to command them but when I have 6-7 a turn it's tough on me to command all of them.

I dunno, just some ranting I guess. I've always liked the viking campaign better than the main one, at least in the strategic part because theres less to do. The flipside of that is that there are less units to get for most civilizations, unless of course you're the vikings who get a lot of viking only units. And yes, I've tried glorious achievments, but that seems to be similar to conquest. That is, doing your little GA goal helps you in terms of points but at the end of the day conquering everything you can still earns you the big points.

Anyone feel this way too? This is by no means a complaint, I love the game. Just always seem to find it funnest before I'm developing a massive economy that can't be broken. Perhaps better Ai would help me..the computer is just not opportunistic enough. For instance my wars against France in early as English often leave several of my provinces ripe for the taking, yet the computer decides not to take them. Thats on normal difficulty so perhaps on hard/expert things would change, but I haven't tried them so I can't say.

i rarely finish a game in MTW, i get to a stage where i am omnipotent and just quit.

that`s why i like Shogun and the Viking eras, enough room for expansion and fighting without getting bored sh*tl~ss after a century or so. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

also, you should try out Medmod, it can seriously liven up the game.

I hate it when you hit that wall, it seems like every new province you take is the same as the last and strategy doesnt really matter anymore :/

I find that after the early expense of building up farmland and mines in my lands, the economy side of the game becomes fairly easy.

I never felt this way with Shogun, i know a lot less about Japanese history than i do about Medieval history and sometimes when i control an empire that spans half of Europe and remains there over time i start thinking 'this is stupid, this would never have happened' and then i decide to quit.

I guess the scale of campaigns such as that of Shogun and the Viking era are more believable as they only involve taking control of a single country which is quite believable, although having said that when Medieval came out i was enthralled by the prospect of conqering all of Europe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sometimes i feel provinces bend too easily to the will of their ruler and change their culture and religion in the space of around 20 years to suit their new ruler, when in reality this just wouldnt happen :/

When i think too much about the real history of this time period i find it ruins the game a bit, i should probably think less about reality when i play :P

If I could have one thing changed, it would be the ability to conquer even more territory. Perhaps I am an Alenander wannabee, but I'd like nothing better than to continue pushing East, until I hit the Great Wall, or the Indus River. Of course, I'd also want to encounter VERY powerful factions when I crossed into these areas. If all you did was scatter peasants on the way to the Pacific, it would be boring.
