OK, I finally found a good use for Hashishin. I was fighting a defensive battle somewhere in southern France in some lush terrain. It was two large forces. I had close to 1,000 troops as the Almos and the enemy English had about 1,200. However, they were mostly urban militia, militia sergeants, feudal sergeants, hobilars and archers.
In the middle of my deployment zone, there was a fairly large wooded area. So, I put 14 units at the back of the deployment zone and stuck my two units of hashishin in the forest well in advance of my main force (not even within longbow range, if either side had any). I forget exactly what their starting valor was, however. I took them off skirmish and engage at will to keep them hidden as long as possible.
But, the English force marched up to my force en masse. And, into the woods they went when I unleashed my hidden hashishin and they just tore into the hobilars, urban militia and archers. In fact, they were so effective, they set the almost the whole English army routing (they later re-gathered themselves and marched back across the map) – It was like the Perfect Storm for hashishin, I guess. Both units got more than 100 kills/captures and one increased their valor by 3 and the other by 4 and I lost a total of 8 men between the two units.
