OK, I finally found a good use for Hashishin. I was fighting a defensive battle somewhere in southern France in some lush terrain. It was two large forces. I had close to 1,000 troops as the Almos and the enemy English had about 1,200. However, they were mostly urban militia, militia sergeants, feudal sergeants, hobilars and archers.

In the middle of my deployment zone, there was a fairly large wooded area. So, I put 14 units at the back of the deployment zone and stuck my two units of hashishin in the forest well in advance of my main force (not even within longbow range, if either side had any). I forget exactly what their starting valor was, however. I took them off skirmish and engage at will to keep them hidden as long as possible.

But, the English force marched up to my force en masse. And, into the woods they went when I unleashed my hidden hashishin and they just tore into the hobilars, urban militia and archers. In fact, they were so effective, they set the almost the whole English army routing (they later re-gathered themselves and marched back across the map) – It was like the Perfect Storm for hashishin, I guess. Both units got more than 100 kills/captures and one increased their valor by 3 and the other by 4 and I lost a total of 8 men between the two units.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif I've never been able to use Hashishins, although i haven't played much with the muslim factions either...

In the woods they are really good, but when you use them in open terrain, it seems like they are seen by AI. I used them in many battles just out of curiosity. In one of my battles in desert, i deployed 6 of them far from my main force, close to the enemy. The enemy attacked them as soon as they came close. And they were not in skirmish mode. It seemed to me that they are useless unless you use them in forests.

As soon as they move or shoot, they are seen. So, I also take them off of skirmish and engage/fire at will.

I've never even built a single unit of Hashishin. Seems like I might be missing out. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

try using them against spearmen, apparently they rip chivalric sergeants apart, and are really useful if attacking the enemy from the rear.

try using your saracens and hashishin in tandem, this greatly increases their combat capabilites(make sure the hashishin attack the rear,as they do most damage in the rear of the enemy).

I've modded my snowboarders to have a 20 men strong unit.

I created a custom battle yesturday, and my hashishin were torn up by plain old spearmen.

Hashishin kicks ass. Especially Snowhobbits http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif. I was fighting against the byzantantines once as the turks and I had 2 units of Hashishin valour 5. They had about 700 men of hardcore Proniai and Byzantine Infantry. I lost only 2 men.

I love to place them at hills on each side of the battlefield. Especially if a poor little enemy general is passing by http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

The thing with Hashishin is that you really need to raise their valour.

By using them sparingly against peasants they can easily raise their skill against them being such a small unit.

Once you have them at Valour 4 or so they will be VERY useful in battle
