Cursus Honorum

Quaestor-The first office which had to be held in a political career. Each year 20 men were elected to serve as Quaestors, i.e. secretary/treasurers.

Aedile-Each year four men were elected to serve as Aediles, i.e. managers of public buildings, services and entertainments. While this was not a required office in the Cursus Honorum, it was one which allowed a young politician to become popular with the people by spending his own money to make urban improvements.

Praetor-The second office which had to be held In a political career. Each year eight men were elected to serve as Praetors, i.e. judges.

Consul-The third and highest office of the Cursus Honorum. Each year two men were elected to serve as Consuls.
I.e. Heads of State.

Censor -Although the office of Censor was frequently a logical next step for a Magistrate who had served as Consul, It was not limited to Patricians who had completed the Cursus Honorum. Every live years two men were elected to serve as Censors,
i.e. Census Takers and Guardians of the Public Mores (highly regarded virtues and personal codes of behavior). The term of office for a Censor was 18 months, and after 339 B.C. It was required by law that one of the Censors be elected from the ranks of the Plebeians.

Class Distinctions

Patricians

The patricians were the descendants of the most ancient and powerful families. the aristocractic patricians were wealthy landowners, leading citizens, government officials, and very prosperous businessmen.

Plebians

The plebians were ordinary citizens, some very successful entrepreneurs others small businessmen. The plebians greatly outnumbered the Patricians although the Patricians still had most of the power in Rome.

This is very misleading for the time of the game. Many of the patrician families had fallen into decrepitude, barely holding onto their dignity never mind their fortunes, though a select few were still very important. The most powerful families (gens) that emerged in this period were in fact plebeian, the new senatorial 'nobiles', families who had become 'ennobled' since the formation of the Republic through virtue of holding the consular office.

Also, to be pedantic, your lovely picture of the Forum Romanum is also anachronistic, showing as it does the Arch of Septimius Severus at the right hand side, therefore dating post-AD 200 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Even the 'Rostra' had been moved from the 'Comitia' in front of the 'Curia' to the position shown in front of the Temples of Concord and of Divus Vespasianus (which also date the picture later).

wow hoh hoh All bow down to the historian of the year

Yes I know the patricians were a dying race in there own they struggled to keep theire power, and in one of the books Im reeding Sulla talks about Julius Caeaser and how he is remarkable in the sence that he will be one of the last impressive patrician generals as most of the genereals are plebian (I believe that Marius was pleb) and of coarse Sulla said this before Julius whent down the path of Flamin Dialis. And about the pic I just found it on google and thought it looked cool the only other pics were the remainders of the forum so it is not supposed to be historically accurate.

I'm sure YOU must know the true story of the 'struggle of the classes' (though even the best ancient historians don't really know how that unfolded). However, your account may have been misleading for others. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
