I guess you could, by changing factions in a game started with a certain commandline enabled. I don't know it at the moment, but I think some guys here have done it before, so they'll probably post sooner or later. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

off topic but somewhat related, i noticed that you can easily tell if an AI faction King has no heirs available, which can be very helpful. you just drop an assasin on the AI king and, if has no heirs, it'll tell you that. you dont even have to go through with the assasin attempt but does give you some useful info without any drawback.

there's a command line you can add to the MTW shortcut that allows you to switch between factions using your number keys. When switching over to other factions, you basically take control of that faction, so you can alter production, check on their finances, and even declare war. It's like playing all the factions of the game at once. I'm loathe to give this command-line out since it's highly addicitive to use and habitual cheating may ruin the game (and yes, that's for me to decide and no, not for you to decide http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif)

someone else may be able to dispense this info, though.

There is, if your not too proud to use it, tho be advised that it's a seductive evil.

Godmode:

Create a shrt-cut on desktop, rt-clk and open properties, clk short-cut tab, and enter -ian after the tw.exe" in the target line.

should look like this:

"(your target location)\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe" -ian

Note that the -ian is OUTside the quotes.

After that, when you start the game using the edited short-cut, on the campaign map type 'G' which toggles g-mode, and then any of the numbers 1-0 and shift\1-0 (depending on how many factions exist) and SHAZAM your that faction.

(number) 1 is the rebels, which end up in the red quite soon usually. Far as I can tell, all rebel units come from rebellions not builds.

The proviso for this should be obvious: the horrible urge to marry off that outstanding hier http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif This will REALLY be a test of your moral fiber, lol

It IS interesting to watch how the AI works tho. This is especially useful if you play a lot of mods.

Solypsist is entirely right about God-mode ruining games.

Use of this for even observation in a game tends to slant things in one's own favor.

On the other hand, If your burnt-out on vanilla games, you can play as 2 factions at once (finally, an ally that wont screw you over&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. Only really interesting if small factions are used, eh? Or as the rebels (good luck&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

you can also use [shift][#] from 1-10 to get the other factions numbered past ten. i never had to press [G], but there ya go. on the battlefield, it allows more of it to be seen, too.
it totally ruined the game for me, which is my caveat.
on the other hand, it was the only way for me to play as the Pope without having to mod the game.

This could also work for you too make a strong empire and then switch to a weak faction, knowing you will be against a tough opponent

I was also thinking exactly this. Play a faction for all of Early and then switch to a 1 province faction for High and see if you can come back and win, or something along those lines.

Excellent idea. This idea has just brought MTW back to life for me, as it was starting to lose its thrill. I am currently playing as the Almos. It is the middle of the high period, and I control all of Africa and the Middle East, all of Spain, Ireland and Scotland, and I have massive armies and navies on the verge of sweeping through the rest of the world like a swarm of locusts. I think I'll switch over and take over for the Byz, who have been completely wiped out by the Horde and have only one province left.

Cool... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

I thought of that as soon as I found out about this. I've never used it, but trying to defeat the monster you have created is fun. I do it in Hearts of Iron all the time.

Wow, this is what I do all the time via modding... I decide what faction I will play and then I subsequently mod some other factions in an attempt to allow them to build up to be a formidable opponent for me in HIGH and LATE eras.

This will save me a ton of time.

Now, if I play the Turks, I may mod a few of the Catholic factions to be much more powerful (i.e., the English OR the French) by giving them better starting buildings, a few more troops, more money, etc.

I'm gonna use this to play hot-seat with my brother. Awesome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Does anyone know how after turn battles play out? Can you control the battles of more than one faction after you hit the end turn button?

I've wanted this ever since I got this game. Thanks guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
