I was wondering how navy was fought before cannons where made. I notice in MTW you fight with navy ( some times) before cannons where made, so how was it done?

Rams attached to the bow of the ship, use the speed and weight of the ship to smash into the enemy.

When attacking galleys, many ships would try to run up close along side the galley in an attempt to sheer off an entire bank of oars and cripple the galleys ability to propel itself.

Ballistae, catapults, greek fire (naptha, water will not put it out).

Grappling hooks to drag the two ships together followed by boarding parties with sword, spears, and various other accoutrements. Bow and crossbow from up in the masts.

There are plenty more ways. I'd be interested in seeing a webpage if anyone knows any good ones.
