As you can see, these are supposed to be elite units, currently that is,so whats your favourite units for now?
I wanted to add Dacian Falxmen, but they don't really sound elite to me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif unless someone provides additional info i could probably change that.

In other rome-based games, Dacians are certainly elite-barbs.

Your post got me... thinking... and did a search on Google. Check this link and look for "Famous Cheerleaders." You'd be surprised who's #5 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
CNN.com... seriously (http://www.cnn.com/2000/fyi/news/09/13/competitive.cheerleading/)
And to remain in the spirit of the thread, my favorite is the Spartan Hoplite. For most of the work, I'd prefer the Roman Legions of the Late Republic & Early Empire.

Dacian Falxmen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
Ahhh... this list needs the Companions
And btw, Asterix might be able to beat a Praetorian, but he is certainly not happy about going into the fight. He actually pulls Obelix away from bumbling into a building protected by Preatorians in Asterix as Gladiator with the comment "We might be unbeatable but we are not immortal."

thanks dessa

They didn't defeat them, they eventually got swamped after a Greek traitor told Xerxes of another path to the Greek position... and they didn't capture their general http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
Every spartan man died that day, though they put up a valiant stand. And no they didn't win because they got surrounded, and they didn't capture Xerxes.
and the persians had far more than 10k. The exact number they had i don't think is known
The Wizard
11-23-2003, 20:01
According to Herodotus they had around 70,000. An enormous army, certainly in those times.
70,000 sounds about right, damn this mind of mine. can't seem to remember much http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif. well reguardless of their numbers, the fact still is that while brave and skillful, the Spartans could not defeat the persians all alone. So CA will have to be careful when they do their stats otherwise making them overpowered.

Well we have to remember that a full 200 years have passed since the glory days of sparta, its 240 bc therefore the spartans should be able to raise only small units. 60-80 would be right, that way they could retain their battlefield "super elite" quality, but still be defeatable.

I dont know if it has been posted before, but the best thing about the Spartans (at least at Thermopylae) is an anecdote from their king.
When the Spartans had set themselves up at the gap at Thermopylae, the Persian king sent them an emmissary offering honorable surrender. After all, said the emmissary, we outnumber you 100 to 1.
The Spartan king replied that there would be no surrender.
The emmissary became a bit exasperated at the unreasonable stubbornnes of the Spartan king, and said "our numbers are so many that the sky will darken from our arrows alone".
To this The Spartan king replied "Good Then we can fight in the shade".
It's even funnier if you contemplate the weight a hoplite in full armour had to carry around. A bit of shade (rare in greece) would have been a great boon to any fighting man.
