Help

I lent my original CD and docs to a friend, so I am just playing with the VI CD, and can't figure out how to get spies to find out my generals' secret vices. I get a spy or an assassin and put them over my general, but all it does is ask if I want to put him on trial for treason. How exactly to you find out the hidden vices?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

By the way, VI is pretty fun. I tried the Scots, and got my butt whipped the first time I played. I managed to conquer both Picts and Irish, but this just exposed me to Viking attacks, and everything went to pot. I restarted and hit the Irish hard and fast, then built up anti-viking armies, and things went much better http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Scots are hard to play because, strangely, they don't have any really unique units. Their Highlanders are outclassed by the Irish Gallowglasses and Bonnachts (man, those Bonnachts are a GOOD unit&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, by the Picts Berserkers and Celtic warriors, and by the Irish Bandits and Celtic Warriors. The Highlanders should at least be better than the Gallowglasses, IMHO.

I think you can only discover the secret vices of other factions' generals--like you said, all you can do with your own generals is try them for treason.
One thing I noticed about the Highlanders in the Viking campaign was their low upkeep cost--15 florins. That means 3 units of highlanders is 45 florins, cheaper than many other single units (armored spearmen are 50, I believe). So they may drop quickly, and not be as tough as some other units, but you can build hordes of them. And despite having "poor morale", they have always been fairly reliable for me.

Thanks mucho

That makes sense then-- I thought you could reveal your own generals vices and virtues, but I guess I was wrong.

In terms of the Scots, yes, their one advantage is in a war of attrition. Clansmen are cheap to build and upkeep, so you can really just wear your enemies down. Seems kind of odd to me, though, as Scotland was never really known for its high population. I think they should have at least one high valor infantry unit.
