Can u use your cav to restand another cav charge by putting them on hold positon and hold formation? Allowing your swords to flank cav charge? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/argue.gif

My friend, generally speaking you can do anything you want in this game, however receiving a cav charge with your cav standing is not the wisest thing to do. Instead it is better to charge yourself, thus inflicting about the same amount of losses upon impact than you will suffer yourself.
Also a cav charge could be met with a spear unit, and flanking should be done with either cavalry or other anti-cavalry units. Swords work at higher valour or in a pinch, but anti-cav units (halberdiers, billmen, militia sergeants, Janissary Heavy Inf etc) are better.
I think _Hector_ was talking about charging in for shock value, then pulling back, reforming and charging again. I've seen the AI do this, and I'd love to do it too. The only problems are 1) my guys don't seem to disengage (even with hold buttons activated) and 2) it takes way too much micro-management to be any fun.

Oh, that was what you were talking about. Sorry, the wording wasn't clear to me. Hold hold won't do anything good, if you want to charge again, then you have to manually disengage by clicking smartly or hitting Ctrl-w.
Works ok against the AI, but in MP you probably won't have the time for multiple charges.

I could only see hold formation being useful if your unit leader has already disengaged and you're trying to get the others to follow as well. Maybe switching to hold formation would convince them to move away quicker. But the tactic is a good one if it works, as the time where you recieve a charge bonus is the best for an attack. You have to remember though,I think theres a pushback as well, like if you charge another unit, they recieve the impact of your charge bonus, then kind of push back a bit as long as they don't run.

Best defense against a cavalry charge? A bridge held by fully upgraded Swiss Armored Pike flanked by Pavise Arbalests. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
