thank you for your answer, i thought i had to add something to the ".exe" properties/target and then add something at the end..
You can add -ian to the end of the shortcut, I think it enables the camera a bit more and you can do stuff like autorun in the game. Kind of a cheat, but you can use it properly and it is fine. In 2.01 it is disable for MP luckily.

It's kinda cheat, but when you have multiple fronts(i.e. when the battle has divided in multiple skirmishes), going from one front to the next one is painful when camera is restricted. So I always leave the restriction off.

The quick way I get around this is, I use Wide Screen and unit iocns on the bottom. Just double click on a unit icon of a unit that is in the battle on the other side of the map.

It's really annoting though. You never know were your camera is allowed to go, and where it is not. "camera jumps", futhermore, are a pain to my eyes. I don't play to physically suffer, but to have fun.
Sorry for bumping this old topic back on top, but after suddenly getting this problem where the Camera Restrictions option was turned off (eventhough it was turned on in the optionsmenu), I nearly panicked thinking of what could have possibly been the cause to this problem.
As I was modding I thought the problem lied somewhere I had changed something. It seemed so unlikely.
So I tried to redo a couple of steps I made with modding and after nearly an hour of trying out several things I still hadn't found out the problem.
So I started searching on this forum using the Search option with the topic title Camera Restrictions and came to this thread. I then read BDC's post about the -ian command and hit myself on the head thinking what an idiot I was.
And yes that was the problem Completely forgot about the -ian command which I used the previous couple of days for testing the AI's unit building choices.
GAH
Good 'ole The Org for helping me find the solution to my problem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
Again sorry for bumping this thread, but I had to write it in this one.
