there is a province on the Iberian peninsula (top left) which gives extra valour for Knights of Santiago produced there but i do not know how to be able to produce it there as it is a crusader unit, right?

You have to invent Santiago first. Then the knights come along with him. :P http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Seriously, I was looking for that too. Anybody know?

I think you get Knights of Santiago only with crusades so you can't really 'train' them (someone correct me if I lied again http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif ).

The knights of Santiago are Crusade generated units. I don't know what if anything influences whether or not they appear (you could get ordered foot and fanantics etc) but it always pays to pump up the provinces zeal and tech up its armor and weapons.

Perhaps if you start a crusade from a chapter house there and get a unit or two in the initial troops added to the crusade they will have the bonus?

Bingo. You will also find that one of the islands in the Med gives a bonus to Knights Hospitallers and the only way to get it is to crusade off of that island.

You can also mod your unit prod file to make them available to build for the Spanish. It takes minimal effort to do. Change the appropriate fields and voila Buildable Knights of Santiago.

You might look into trying MedMod3.13 as Wes has set it up so that the royal bodyguard unit for Spanish and Aragonese kings and princes in the Late era are Knights of Santiago. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Knights of Santiago only become available after a successful Crusade.
