Hi Guys,

have just uploaded Beta 5 version of the Mod
and an upgrade pack for Beta4 to bring it to Beta 5

sorry i was delayed getting all this together - i have been working back to back double shifts for the last couple of weeks,
start at 6:30 am and finish after 7:30pm but before midnight,
makes one kinda sleepy when you get home,

anyway i have managed to squeeze an update pack together for the mod, fixes castle battles (although they are still Viking castles at least they work now), adds some more clans etc etc etc

for those who already have beta 4 version of the mod you need these files,
SFV_file-check-flashsfv2.0f.zip - FILE CHECKSUM PROGRAM
UPGRADE_Beta4-to-Beta5_SFV_file.zip - CHECKSUM FILE
UPGRADE_Beta4-to-Beta5_STW_Mod_20nov.zip - the UPGRADE pack

from this directory
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Mtw_Uploads/MTWbeta/

i included a checksum file so you can make sure the file itself came to you uncorrupted

for those who have NOT yet got the mod you need these files,
SFV_file-check-flashsfv2.0f.zip - FILE CHECKSUM PROGRAM
STW_Mod_BETA5_SFV_file.zip - CHECKSUM FILE
STW_Mod_BETA5_20nov.zip - the MOD

from the same directory
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Mtw_Uploads/MTWbeta/

better hurry though,
as soon as Tosa can move them to 3D and the forum file server he will - we dont want to annoy our web host too much,

as always contact me at barocca_x@hotmail.com

Barocca... What a piece of work http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ...It's 1575, all going rather nicely, no issues at all. Love the new Clans..( Kas will love the Ryuzoji )...They have certainly added to the campaign.

Could you give me the prerequisites for Geisha please? I'm sure I have all the buildings and upgrades but no sign of being able to train Geishas

:-(
i can't seem to assign portraits for geisha's,
i can only assign by unit CLASS, not by type :-(
so the giesha had general assassin portraits :-(
so i removed them from the build prod file

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif That explains it then...
It is a shame but with all the extras you added I'm sure it won't spoil things......
......And I'll forgive you dropping the Geishas when the Mongols arrive anyway http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I am currently looking quite intimidating as Clan Uesugi and all is bug free http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif it seems. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is too many Kensai. They seem to be far too common and appear even in Rebel armies in numbers. I faced a Shitake army last night that had about 10 of them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif Oh yes, they can run like Nodachi too, one of them caught my Cav Archers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif I did try too get away but I was laughing so much at the mayhem he was causing, I lost half my unit.
Keep us posted....

it appears there was a typo in the unit prod file when it comes to no dachi run speed - they are extremely fast - while i do like them being quick - i think they currently move at around 60mph - lol

will look at kensai problem,
i did try making them more expensive, but that has not slowed the ai down - the ai seems to have a festish for them

Had an odd 'end year' last night...
I had just taken Shinano, Mikawa, Totomi, Etchu and Yamashiro in a decisive blow that stretched ( and weakened ) Lord Ashikaga. When the provinces fell I netted 23000 + florins, so I took the opportunity to upgrade buildings etc. Then comes the surprise.....
Revolt in Tosa, revolt in Awa, Revolt in.....Sado At 200% loyalty??? I hasten to add that each was garrisoned well and had been loyal for years ( Sado from year one )

I have had this before, when I campaigned as the Horde. It became so bad that I quit the campaign. Every year saw about 10 revolts, all in heavily garrisoned provinces. Ok so I crush them, killing thousands in so doing but the next year they revolt again.....that is totally stupid. For a start where do all the rebels come from? After killing thousands year after year the population simply could not generate them.

This is the problem I've had with MTW, it seems like an AI cheat to stop you getting too strong but in all honesty it ruins otherwise fun campaigns, I mean if I have 60000 florins but have to limit my spending because of a stupid queue bug then it becomes pretty pointless. I'll let you know if it happens again

what about the governors of those provinces?
do they have some annoying vice?

I am assuming you have built things like Tranquil Gardens, Palaces, Watchtowers and Temples in all those provinces?
(all those buildings have happiness adjustments attatched)

have not had any experience with a queue bug myself so far,
what i have noticed is if you have more than 70% of the provinces the "rebels" seem to go nuts, but not always

some of the things i do are the buildings above and i keep my Damiyo as close to the center of japan as possible and in a region with access to the sea,
if i go to war with anyone my first move is always sink their ships so my knigs does not "lose touch" with any of the provinces.
A Spy and a Ninja in each province also helps keep them calm.

Well I'm very pleased to say I finished the campaign last night http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Believe it or not, it's the first Mediaeval campaign I have managed to complete ( due to reasons in last post ) so this Mod is definitely a good one.
So I extend my appreciation and gratitude to all who have worked on it. Terrific job guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
To those who have not tried it.......You really don't know what you're missing.....It's like a whole new game and given to us gratis The best thing is...It's better than MTW or VI
Go download it

Although I haven't finished it yet, I've been playing a normal SP campaign as Takeda, which I played a lot in original STW, with this STWmod, and the mod is a terrific job. The artwork that barroca dug up for this and that which he created is wonderful. The whole thing puts the Viking Invasion add-on to shame.

I am going to change the no-dachi speed to run 12 and charge 12 before going further with this campaign because the current 18 makes them like cav units without the combat disadvantages of cav. Cavalry seems to be handicapped enough by the very high command rating of the generals, which which seems to reduce the effectiveness of the cav's charge, without the additional disadvantage of having no-dachi running around at cav speed. The cav seems similar to cav in original STW with all the inf speeds set back to STW values, but I'm not sure the cav is as effective as it was in STW since some melee values were reduced in favor of higher charge values in WE/MI v103. After seeing how cav performs so far, I'm reluctant to lower the cav archer speed and will leave that alone for now. One reason is that you need all the chase capability you can get since inf units have the same charge and run speed which means that quite often you cannot catch a routing inf unit with another inf unit even if you are right on their heels.

The relatively high cost and upkeep of the units and the way it's balanced against the province incomes seems to keep the army sizes smaller than I remember in original STW. I think this is a good feature because I always thought the battles were more interesting when the armies were fairly small and you didn't have that endless tream of reinforcements coming onto the battlefield which the ai doesn't handle well anyway. This might not hold true in the later stages of a campaign when you hold a lot of territories, but the build up of armies does seem to be at a slower pace so far. Also, the absence of artillery helps the ai when attacking since in mtw/vi it brings artillery to non-castle battles which handicaps it to effectively using less than 16 units, and doesn't make sense anyway since artillery was not an anti-personnel weapon in those days.

I haven't seen any errors in the text panels, and the bulding panels provide clear info on their benefit and what units they allow to be trained. I don't think you really need a build tree reference to play the game. The additional clans add to the strategic complexity. There is a lot to be explored here in terms of strategy, and possibly some strategic imbalances to be uncovered which I'm sure will be corrected. I'm trying to pay attention to the maps used in battles as barocca has asked in case any seem inappropriate for the situation.

Now I have to juggle my SP time between the STWmod and WesW mod.

Largest battle I fought was my 789 against a desperate Ukita Daimyo who brought 2400 +. Needless to say, by this stage my armies were very seasoned and I was very rich, so his effort was in vain http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I agree with Puzz for the same reason, reinforcements are not handled well, in fact when I defeat the original army, it's usually just a case of chasing them off when they turn up. Now a battlefield with 2 armies of 2000 +.....I'd love to see that and if we can play 4v4 with 8000 or more men on the field, it should be possible but alas......

As for the Nod's.....Put them in column formation and pull off a flank manoeuvre, you ain't seen flanking 'til you see these guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Barocca,

Dude, you are a king Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Played my first game of STW mod last night - the first game of StW since MTW emerged - and I loved it I like some of the added touches - nice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ahh the kensai holding a bridge

the monk rush

no dachi cutting off heads - beutiful

I have a question - I suppose the music is hardwired into the source code? Wouldnt it be ausome to have the STW music in battles etc - possible?

anyway I just wanted to say thanks for the great job you and the others who worked on this mod have done - and to tell all the other MTW addicts - if theres one mod you get - it has to be this one. Great Job chaps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

edit: sorry B I just read the thread re music in the dungeon - so its definetly do able - anyone working on it at the mo or should I set about modding?

Hi YunDog....
Yes I agree with you entirely about the music. I read the same thread ( Tosa's reply? )....after a few sentences I got lost http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif
I remember doing this with OH/Mod, I transfered the Mongol wave files from MI. That was a while ago though....and I had more than a bit of help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I can't wait until the Mongols are added, somehow I think it will be a better Mongol Invasion expansion too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Orda,
I agree the Mongols will be cool. So I have successfully got the shogun music playing in the battles.

heres what I did

I couldnt find the shogun music files on the disks, and I no longer have it installed. (Does anyone know where these files can be found either on the install or disk)

So I went to the TW website and downloaded some of the music MP3s from there. I also copied the Mongol ones from the MI disk they were in .ogg format.

I downloaded a converted and converted all the files to .wav files (they get quite large in .wav format)

I then copied them into the music directory as per the instructions from the other thread. I changed the playlist file accordingly - at first I had a problem because I just added the shogun music and did not add the //custom 2 and 3 slots after it. ( I intend to now add mongol music in custom slot 2)

Then I went to Bs STW beta 5 startpos file and found the setfaction music lines and changed them to be 3 instead of 1, should I add the mongol music this will be tagged as 4 for the mongols. (0=arabic, 1=euro, 2=viking, 3,4,5 custom slots)

started a battle and as soon as the men started moving those old loved sounds of japanese feudal warfare came flooding back.
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Problems http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

at the battle startup (setup screens) it seems to still have mtw music - it must be set as default somewhere - so the shogun tension music I didnt hear but it was late and I was rushing to see if any music worked. Didnt leave time for tension http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

the files I downloaded from .com didnt have anything marked as mobilise music - so I used the mongol mobilise music - does anyone remember what music was used for mobilising in shogun and where can I find it ( it may be called tension or battle in the files I downloaded - im thinking Ill use one of these in the short term anyway)

At the end of the battle - I didnt get the win or lose music - dont know why? - more testing required

I noticed that there were music files called Mongol stratmap or something like that - is it possible to change the stratmap music - if so does anyone know where this is, cause its not in the playlist file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers Shogun/Mongol loyalists

I just succeeded in getting MI Mongol music on to one of my VI installs.... I copied the Mongol wave files to the music and orders folders, deleted the Euro ones and renamed the Mongol ones to Euro. Tried it and had the tension, battle and victory music http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Heh. That is bound to work Orda...

But the idea is to get both versions of music files working, so that when you play MTW you get MTW music and STW for STW mod.

I'm sure there was a post in the Dungeon a while back (ok a long while back) which suggested that somebody had changed all the music files.

It might need a search to find the thread, and I'm not sure which part of the Dungeon it'd be in now.

I should do things the old fashioned way.

Barocca,

just wanted to send you some props for this great mod. I was missing STW:MI and had gone back to playing it some when I discovered your mod. Needless to say I have throroughly enjoyed playing it. It's like an entirely new yet familiar game. I can imagine alot of time and effort went into the mod and it shows. So just wanted to let you know all the hard work is appreciated.
