Had the game since release, but played my first ever Late period game last night...

Always thought you would be kind of missing out, missing all the time and build up... But I am wrong, it is really good and even has different challenges..

Firstly the other factions start with decint infrastructure and units...

Secondly You tend to have 1 or 2 built up provinces that can produce good troops and ships, whereas your other provinces just make money or do nothing.. You have to make real strategic decisions because you have limited time and resources and building up your other provinces will take considerable time and money, money that might be better spent on troops or ships.. Then you have you choose (at least at first) between further advancing you best provinces or playing catchup with the less developed..

There is just more pressure and the other factions are better equiped...

All good fun.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Personally I like to start always on Early. It is (in my opinion) the true beginning of modern European history and I feel like I am actually making the history. Otherwise I feel like the whole beauty of the early era is spoiled.

But on the other hand, the game ends rather easily and I have to wait boring hours to get to gothic era units.

the good thing with starting in late is that the ai usualy has better troops makes a challenge, i mostly play early but now and then high and late..

Haven't tried late yet. But high is definately more challenging than early so I won't be surprised to find late to be the best.

Look forward to giving it a go. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i prefer playing early, you get to feel you are actually altering a significant amount of european history.

what i wouldn`t give for the game to start in the viking era and continue onto the late era. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

you can do that. Just go into the Viking text file and set the game end date to 1453

how would that switch from the small viking map to the larger one?

i didn`t mean playing just the viking section until 1453, i meant the whole lot http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

congratulations. you have discovered the wonders of building up a large empire in 133 years. I have done it..as the Italians It was very very hard. and it took me a lot of trading, and some cheating too. *expects to be bashed* I ONLY USED THE MONEY CHEAT *doesn't get bashed* phew..

BASHING So..... you didn't really do it because you cheated. Now try again without cheating. But make it harder so play as the Poles.

I hardly ever start in early anymore. A game rarely lasts over 150 years so if I want to be using decent troops I need to start in High or Late. Some of my best games have been Late starts. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of playing as the Poles or Russians. That is one heck of a lot of territory to win with such poor starting provinces. Playing as the French (or British, which I treat the same) or Italians is quite a bit easier.

I like to start in high and even late, but then I'll change the enddate to 1750 or something like that. It's fun to meet better troops and produce top-of-the-line troops yourself.

Come on, why everyone say that you have decent infrastructure at Late? There´s couple of buildings in provinces, many are totally undeveloped http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif
That´s idiotic Even an brain-invalid would have build a much, much more if playing since Early..

Your infrastructure isnt good, but the AI is better than it otherwise might be. Also as typically you only have one-three good provinces, and few troops and hungry neighbours, strategy is that much more difficult.

I really like playing late era, especially russia. I just tell myself I inherited a badly managed kingdom, and I am the one to fix it all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Keimo is right. Late era definitely needs more buildings added in most provinces to reflect the passage of time since 1087.
I understand this wasn't done to give you a challenge of constructing the buildings yourself in this little time, but personally I find this a bit boring. When I start a Late campaign, I expect to find reasonably teched up factions, especially in Western Europe and Turkey.

And it doesn´t still give the game more challenge, becouse AI factions are just as badly developed as humanplayer. You will meet the same peasents in Late and Early, no can do..

Especially when two AI factions goes war with each other, they usually lost all that little infrastructure what they have.. AI can´t defend it´s provinces and they will change owners again and again.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif That´s so annoying

Btw, I installed MedMod(?) and provinces are now more teched up. Looks much better..

I find with VI that often when an AI faction is invaded it will loss the province and end up in the castle, and then move it's troops to lift the seige and with the way that buildings are protected until the castle is taken, in VI the provinces usually stand up pretty well to being handed back and forth...
