I searched for posts regearding this topic and it seems alot of people have trouble with the second or third mission. I can't even get past the first.

In this battle you start at the back of the map with 2 YS, 3 or 4 YA, 1 ND, 1 BN, 4 guns and a very small group of ND as the taisho. Most of my troops start tired for some reason. There's two large forested hills to the left where 1 enemy (red) is. The other (green) is at the river bank. Red has 3 120 man muskets, about 60 SA in small groups.

I send my 2 YS up the hill closest to the back and make the archers retreat. Then the muskets go into the valley between my hill and the second. Meanwhile, my BN have snuck up behind some musks. They take 3 losses on level ground to the musks who are meleeing. Shouldn't they be able to decimate muskets?

I order my YS to charge (down hill) at the other guns. MY guys are losing badly. They waver several times and eventually rout(16 SA were flanking them. My guys shouldn't care). Meanwhile, green has reached my position so I have my hands full. Red proceeds to blast the crap out of my flank with musks.

HELP!

(By the way, does any one know why troops don't disengage when you tell them to? I remember many battles I would have won if my troops had been more obedient and moved, either away or to a new target.)

I won that first battle by chasing the red musketts and archers with my ND before they could get setup. I lined up my yari infantry units in hold formation backed by my guns to meet green. I used the BN to help hold my right flank.

If I remember correctly, this question actually has been aasked before. You might want to search the topic harder. It's a battle against Akechi Mitsuhide and his ally.

At any rate, the reason your troops are performing poorly is simply because: the AI's are far superior!

They have more advanced units, their troops start up at something like honor 3, and on top of those, both of the enemy Daimyo are 4 star generals (thus 2 more additional honor to their army).

The way I did it, is to take a defensive stance. Remember that your soldiers are no match to theirs on level ground. So humble yourself and retreat your troops to the small hill right behind your starting position, and protect your gunner with your Yari.

Blow the incoming enemy into pieces with your gunners, and try to assasinate their Daimyos. It's a royal pain that most of your gunners are Arqebusiers thus have shorter range, but peasants are dispensable anyway.

Once the two generals are gone, you can pat yourself on the shouler and have your pages preparing for the celebration party.

Wedgies are the way to go!! send em towards the red lot with the ND in support. Then setup the rest of ur units so that you can repel the greens (Akechi Mitsuhide). Not always a winner, but very good. Its true though you never have very many men left over. Its a hard battle to fight! Which is why Hideyoshi is the last campaign in the list, it is the hardest.
