im gonna try my first GA game next (have VI w/patch). any suggestions on what are fun factions to do for GA, is there anywhere that gives lists of goals for the different factions. is it better for a certain period start or just full campaign? i've already done a couple english campaigns so would want some other faction. thanks (btw, just want ideas on what faction to pick, not ideas on how to carry out the campaign once started, its more fun to figure that as you go on your own)

Hi Basileus, nice to see another swede,
but back to the topic, I recommend the french, as they probarly have the most GA, or at least the biggest variete

I seem to recall the HRE are quite good for early as they have quite a few challenging goals they get, and the turks are good for late because of their challenges.

I recommend:

French- Challenging GA goals, probably the most challening actually. No unique units per say, but the chiv knight bonus is damn sexy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Byzantines- Awesome units which lose some of their effectiveness come high/late. Great start position and cool premise. GA is fairly challenging too because you have to hold provinces you might normally not care for.(naples for instance)

To find out what the other GA goals are just open the GA menu like you were checking your goal and click the shields of the other factions to see thier goals.

Well, i definitely reccommend the French GA in Early... Very demanding...

I was role-playing the game somewhat and only allowed Crusading as an avenue of Strategic "Advancement". Thus, i never fought with the English and Aragonese. Surprisingly, they nevr took me on as well.

Thus my French Empire stretches from Flanders, Champagne, Ile-de-France, Brittany, Toulouse, Genoa, Milan, Tripoli, Palestine. All the new additions were made, sanciotned by the Pope.

Its slightly crasy now... I have to mann every province with troops but i realsied that as long as you dont arms-race, ie, try to build more than the AI, they dont raise much troops as well. Thus i keep my manning garrisons at 70-80% of the surrounding factions, enabling my self to tech up to Chilvaric MA.

Its quite challenging, i say. Its still 1150...

If you want a little challenge, play Aragon, starting date doesn't matter, the later, the harder though. Also Russia (High).
If you want lots of GA goals throughout, play France, HRE, Turkey and maybe Poland. All starting on Early.

For an easy campaign, try Byzantines, Italians or Egyptians, all on Early. It's usually good to start GA games on Early, so you will possibly see all GA goals of yours and of all the other factions too, as Mr. Whipple said. (But not at the start, GA goals come and go in the list as time passes...)

Sorry, I forgot that part, but I usually have things all wrapped up so early in the game that it has no effect on me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

thanks for the suggestions, i opened a game just to check what the starting goals are, i was glad brutal dlx mentioned that they change over time, so you have to keep checking it, i think i'll try HRE early and do a bit of roleplaying of rebuilding the middle kingdom (with the popes blessing of course - unless he's an ass then i;ll fry him) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
