If anyone has access to anyone that matters plz forward this thread...this morning the room was filled with personal attacks: I was only a 'by-stander', but IMHO it may be time to invalidate a CD key again. As the org does not allow naming names ill not say them, but ask me if you like..
ChatMonitor is pratically worthless.

Remember too the abuse of player names recently and be 100% sure that its the player it says it is.
Although id agree the foyer is a swear fest.
Since the merging of the lobbies I have placed approximately 80 names on my ignore list. Felt good.

It's going from bad to worse now, the foyer basicly can't be used anymore, whenever you post something...it will be out of sight in mere seconds because of the relentless rubbish some others throw in...even the private window is used to make your life misserable...guys I never heard of insult me (and I understand others also) all the time. My ignore list is growing and growing, but this isn't much help either since many (more or less normal guys) reply them...so even if I don't see any insults...I see the replies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Organise to meet at a different, nuetral but policed chat room... away from Game Spy. then, once the details of the game password etc have been decided all you need to do is go to GameSpy to start the game.

Sad when it has to come to this.
I found private chat still working and use it mostly.
There's an authority missing in the lobby, earlier, spammers shut up when a vet said something, now they don't seem to care anymore. And ChatMonitor should wake up now or be gone forever.
Isnt it a possibility to inform gamespy of this. As they are our hosts, they have the power to do something. Maybe an official statement (by .org or .net or both) signed by many (longtime members of) the community could prove valuable here. I know there are ignore, ban etc commands, but i dont like to use them.
Maybe its time to send a signal to gamespy about this. If its signed by vets or/and clanleaders it might just work. I think we all agree the problem lays in the MTW 1.1 lobby allthough its combined with 2.01 these days.
I dont mind the "occasionel" spamming, allthough its getting worse every day, but some peeps think they can say just about anything in foyer. In real life I dont mind the occasianel swearing and such (Sometimes i do that also http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif) but there is a limit to this. I think iv seen all kinds of stuff (people reffering to cancer etc, i find this especially insulting... and I know im not alone). If people have seen the effects of this illness, i think they would slap themselves to the head.
anywayz just some thoughts on this (and sorry for my spelling, english isnt my native language)..

That separate lobbies thing wasnt that bad after all ...
TGI
Combining the two lobbies has been a mixed blessing and a curse...
Bar a few exceptions its mainly a respect thing... FF ran into similiar problems with the new mtw (non-vi) breed... Until we realised respect is earned and not given. It only took us a few non-VI games with easy victories to gain their respect and to shut up some trouble makers. Now, i know we were not the only VI clan to do so and as such the initial issues are solved... Respect has been established... However there are some exceptions, some individuals are still causing problems and it is they who nowadays turn the lobby into a big flamewar... Some of these individuals are causing similiar problems on the twn forum as well... And yes their behaviour and impact on the lobby is growing worse, however in general things are fine IMO... least for us and I only got 20 people on my ignore list
However I see some good things too... I see more and more mtw people reconsidering getting VI and I've noticed that some of the MTW clans are having some VI members recently (AoM, Die for example)... and finally it seems that the Bears have finally made the transfer to VI. To keep it short, our presence alone influence them to get VI and more and more of the MTW'rs are getting VI, which in the end is a good thing.
The main problem sofar has only been lack of respect (which can be easily earned and thus solved) followed by minor problems caused by some individuals whose actions sadly have a big impact on the lobby... causing a flaming chainreaction similiar to the current one found on the twn site, which is fortunately considered a problem there too
In fact, many times the lobby is docile and fine with the occasional rant and spam... Until certain troublemakers get on, and within two minutes the lobby is out of control
I agree with some of your comments Tempiic. A few days ago there seemed to be a large problem with some people 'masquerading' as others - using very similar usernames. It all got very childish and irritating.
However, I'm not sure I agree with your comments on respect. I have been playing MTW for over a year, but MP for only a few weeks. The fact that I'm a relative novice MP player, and am easily beaten, should not exclude me from respect.
I was taught to respect everyone, and especially my elders and those wiser than me. I don't think that beating someone at an MP game demands their respect. If anything the loser should gain respect by being an honourable opponent.
Having said that, if you managed to teach some of these idiots a lesson in manners then I'm pleased.
I also get annoyed at the way newcomers are treated in MP. We all started somewhere, and most newbs just need a little help, which is usually a pleasurable experience.
Personally, and I gather I'm not alone, I'd very much like to see some sort of action taken against these people (mostly exhuberant youngsters who have never been taught any manners, I'm betting) who are rude and offensive.
However, tolerance is required in every situation....

most of the time I log on I get insulted by people speaking tongues I can't understand. Most of it looks like a form of Turkish and Russian. So it doesn't bother me that much cause I can't understand what they're saying anyway http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Actually that teaching respect i mentioned might have been a bad word choice... However it is only aimed to these people who are rude and offensive with no provocation.
I am afraid currently there is little else that can be done... As things were before VI came along, there was social control going on by the player community, which was strongly encouraged and regulated by most vets (I am not considering myself a vet) and things were quite peachy back then.
And yes being new does not exclude you from getting respect, it is a mutual thing... and most be earned instead of given. The problem is that a big part the people who are causing the problems currently tend to only 'listen' to those who can seriously maul them in game

Not all who lost a game are acting as good loosers nor do all who win a game act as good winners... I hate to use the word honourable and I try to avoid it. However I do doubt you will run into much problems with the more decent (referring to manners, rather than game capabilities) players

Some, unfortunetly, only can respect others when being defeated convincingly on the field... It is quite far from my preferred way as most who know me know.

True, we all started somewhere and most newcomers need a little help... However a big part of the newcomers have a i-know-it-all attitude and are not so willing to listen to given advice and pointers and tend to blame the more experienced players on his team why he lost the game. In regards to newcomers, most of the more experienced players tend to wait a bit and watch until they know what kind of newcomer they are facing... Helping new players out can be a pleasurable experience indeed, but it can be time consuming as well and not every new player is willing to listen to advice nor willing to actually learn. If you are though, all you need is to ask people for advice... or while in game, if you state you are new to the come earlly on, most people (who i know) tend to help you out automatically, or at least will try to do so... However, not everyone has always the time to do so on that specific moment.
.. likewise, some of the more seasoned players think that by virtue of being around longer mean their decisions are right and the new-comer wrong, and start bitching the newcomers to do this and do that.. instruction should be friendly advice and not orders.. it is up to them to accept it.. and remember.. not everyone learn fast, as in a flash he becomes a vet. some newcomers may seem not to respond to your adivce, but in fact they are struggling to do just that, but cannot cope.. you have to be understanding.
if one cannot handle playing ally with a newcomer, dont join the game.
Tolerance is the key word, ladies and gentlemen.
Yip Tootee, your rite. I try to be friendly and understanding with newcomers. I dont mind allying with them. Just sometimes it makes me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif when i see there armys. I allways (well most of the time) invite them for a second game, to show them some tricks. (they do not allways accept ofcourse).
anyway, if they wont listen to some advice, ill be glad to kick there butts once more http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But i thought this topic was not about playing style, or terrible performance on the battlefield...
It was about those "players" who decide to spam, shout, use abusive language (and i dont mean damn or something) etc..
They should be kicked, ignored banned (fill in what you want) from the server

wish words tottee, very wise indeed.

The spamming itself doesn't really bother me that much except it makes the foyer unusable which is an important issue. However, more than that issue, when a lot of people are spamming, it's an indication that many people are not there to play the game in even a semi-serious fashion. This means that the players who are there to play seriously get caught up in games with players who are only there to goof off. It's a collosal waste of time for the semi-serious player let alone the serious player. You can close hosted games to anyone you don't know, and I guess that's just how you have to handle it which unfortunately closes the door on new players as a group.
i was on during the day a week ago....well, i see what you mean, it is crazy. i find that better players are on and less horsesh*t happens around 2am(-7GMT).

Meh.. I just ignore all of the idiots and wait for games to start. Its annoying, but the flamers/spammers are jsut trying to get a rise out of people, its what they feed on. If you totally ignore them there 2 year old attention span usually gives out on them. There are a core group of people I talk to in my private chat box, otherwise I pretty much ignore what going on in the public chat window.

Unfortunately some of the culprits are even using private message box to try to *get to you*.
I just don't bother answering any of these messages.
But it is a sad fact that enjoyment is being spoilt by some uncaring persons, to put it politely.

I have no idea what you are talking about, every one I have seen in the lobby is talking calmly and nicely.
It's indeed improving http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/birthday.gif
