View Full Version : Rome Total War and medieval period
Are there any others, like me, who can't help it from being a little bit disappointed that the next Total War title is set in the Roman era and that it isn’t in fact a Medieval Total War 2 game ?
One of the reasons I love MTW so much (apart from it being a great game, of course) is that it’s set in a period in history that I personally find most fascinating and the game manages to set the right atmosphere and historical context which makes it even more enjoyable than just good strategy game. RTW will most likely be an excellent game but for me, there will no doubt be something missing.
So, will RTW be mod-able and do you think we will see a medieval mod for it sometime ?

Personally, I'm torn. The Romans are my undeniable favorite civilization, but the Medieval time period is my favorite spot of history.
As for moddability, there have been comments and hints from various Devs visiting the forum and interviews given by CA personalities that imply that RTW will be the most mod friendly title in the TW series to date. If their product lives up to its bill, and the mod friendly changes in VI were a good start, then I think the sky is the limit when it comes to potential arenas for mod expansion on the RTW engine. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
The rumors about the enhanced moddability are indeed a good sign. I hope someone will take the challenge and create a detailed and high quality medieval mod for the RTW engine.

well I dont think they would choose it if they didnt think it would get a good reception. Personally I wuld have liked to have seen M:TW 2 instead of R:TW, but the people making it probably want to do something different instead of just a rehash with better graphics.
Personally Im not angry that it is rtw and not mtw2 Im more angry that we cant have a huge one called Ancient toal war covering all of ancient history of coarse we cant go to far back as we step into skepticism but I would love to see the parthenon being built and Alexander at his peak and then the Romans who take it just that one step further..
Well I am not disapointed for going back to roman times, it is time for a change isn't it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif But of course I'm not going to quit M:TW.
I am very anxious to see the new graphics and features.
Anyway anyone knows when to be released?

I loved Shogun:TW and followed its development from an early stage, but I was always avidly waiting for a Classical/Roman edition, and I remember that possibility being discussed from the beginning of these forums. TBH, I only go through the motions with M:TW, initially disappointed it was chosen as the followup period to S:TW, but now glad because R:TW is going to be far superior to the medieval variant. I would rather see a revamped and expanded Japanese/Eastern version as a future project rather than another medieval edition.

I'm hoping on of the talented Modders will be set to work on a Medieval mod using Rome.
If only it was easy to just port it all over to the new engine.

The Roman era is so more epic and mystical than the medieval period Awsome generals, epic sieges, colossal armies, and excellent strategies A time where Rome rose to take Carthage head on, where the almighty Caesar crushed the barbaric gaul, defeated the germans, and took on Pompey. When Augustus terminated Marcus Antoninus and Cleopatra for good.
And dont fear, there will be expansions for the game I think there will be 'The Barbarian Invasions' and one b4 the punic wars.
im also sure theyre be mods
and then engine is amazing
THERE WILL NEVER BE A TIME WHERE I DOUBT THE GLORY AND MAJESTY OF RTW

Not disappointed at all, as I grew up on a lot of Greco-Roman history and think RTW will be fantastic (though I do like the medieval period too). What I'd most like to see after RTW are expansions taking us back to the Greek period ... the Pelopennesian War, the wars with Persia, and the march of Alexander...
The last stand of the Spartans agains the Immortals at Thermopylae would be enormous fun.
