.....thanks. At ease, people.

Hi, I am Count Alfred von Schlieffen, Chief of the German General Staff. You probably know me from the Schlieffen Plan,a strategy involving a German invasion of Belgium and a right-wheel flanking movement through Holland and then southwards, cutting off Paris from the sea.

.... well, all right, as you might have guessed, I am not really him, just a 24 student of Japanese language and Culture at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, who finally, after buying Medieval TW (and having owned and played Shogun: TW, for a couple of years now, decided to join this forum.

So, again, a big hi to y'all please, put of with my silly questions and annoying ignorance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif

Okay, here comes my first show-off of 'astoundingly annoying newby ignorance'-ness:

how the heckdo I edit my post? I didn't see no link saying 'edit' after I posted.

BTW, playing Medieval TW right, am horribly addicted to it. Playing the Egyptians of 'early period', 'easy' difficulty level. Current year: 1234. All went well up until a couple of years ago: conquered Constantinople after a bloody and viscious war with the Byzantines:

And then the Mongols invaded. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Sorry. Temporary megalomania. A game of conquest such as Medieval TW does that to you. Do you also have this constant urch to look over your shoulder in case a Catholic Bishop is trying convert you? And I once walked past a mosque, and told the imam standing outside on the street that he should go a preach in the lands of Novgorod and beware of Aragonese assassins. He ran away.

This sort of talk reminds me: is there a: 'You have played too much ....TW when...'thread somewhere on this forum? If not, one should be started very soon.

But on the serious side, the Schlieffen plan is a classical approach a la Clausewitz, a standard invasion all German officers would consider first, as well as would the defenders As far as I know, that plan never got fully implemented in the Great War, and it was not used in the WW2 because Hitler embraced the idea from general Erich von Manstein who suggested the crossing over the Ardenns, a teritory deemed unfit for movement of tanks from both German and French general HQ, an approach the defenders failed to accept as possible. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

welcome to the org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

the the Schlieffen plan didn't workbecause i think there was to be 5 division invading france. but then the russian moblized too fast, so the german high command transfer a couple divisions to the east which did increibly well(battle of tannerberg), but the didvisons in the west didn't do so good, they got stuck and it transform into trench warfare.

btw, how do u do quotes again, it's been a long time.

The WW2 Ardenes breaktrough wich lead to the encirclement of large parts of the French Army and of the British Expeditionary Corps in Dunkirk was named, as previously mentioned, Sichelschnitt.

Actually, my dearboy. I think your plan was doomed from the get go. You should have stayed with Moltke the Elder's idea to move against the Slavic hordes first and forced the Frenchies to attack you against the narrow corridor between Lux. and the Swiss. Their damnable sense for elan would have been their undoing offensively.

My good Sir, I didn't assume you are from England, I merely theorised that you could be from a country that is missing this distinction, and England as well as Germany would not qualify then.
