But I'm leaning towards the Balkan factions: Magyars and Byzantines.

As an Englishman, My Home faction is my overall fave in the game. I just love those Longbows Even when I am playing as someone else I always hire them when I see a Unit skulking around my Inns. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Lately I have been turning towards Eastern factions such as the Turks, Byzantines and Hungarians... For some reason their Horse Archer-Style Cavalry really appeals to me (Too bad the English don't have any, oh well More Mercs to Hire) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've recently played twice as the Danes, 1st domination, 2nd GA. They are so far my favorites. The only thing I don't like is that you can't launch a Danish crusade. Vikings and Husks are some of the best early infantry available in the game.

I like the Swiss most in custom battles or multiplayer, in campaigns I like them all, it doesn't matter what faction I play. I think campaigns are too easy (even on hardest with the hardest faction)

I like Byzantines aswell, but if Scots were there, I would be them, so I put them in the game myself. I have never played as the English, and never will. The Almohads are OK too, and the Italians, and the French.

But factionwise I'll stick with my English (longbowman) - its just a pity now that the spearmen are'nt strong enough to stick infront of them like the Agincourt stakes (Steaks see below)

Sure your right about fun, I suppose thats the extra pull with MTW over STW - the more diverse choice.

I too play MP with several faction types and used the misleading term 'stick with ' in the sense that asked by the poster to make a choice - that would be my favourite choice but not to the exclusion of others.

Bring on the Turks and Hungarians - they are all fun.

I like the Germans because you really have to put a lot of effort in them to make them work. Once you get your act together they can be a real mean warmachine. The briefing says it best: Imperial might, when concentrated is devastating. (or something to that effect)

The surrounding factions (the French mostly) get so many multistar generals in Early, but that makes it all the more worthwhile once I start to blitzkrieg all over them.

I favor the Spanish. Iron, quick choke holds, easy access for my crusaders. Also in good position to take from England and France once they start fighting amonst themselves.

I'm a Spanish kind of guy myself. There are no less then four provinces on the iberian penisula which have both iron and ocean access. Which means they can produce good units and still be able to get them to the front quickly later in the game. One of those is Aragon, which is somewhat developed and ripe for a quick, early death blow to the Aragonese. The Almohads can be a problem, but if you can push em back past Morocco you're in excellent shape. And Lancers are probably the best heavy cavalary unit in the high period - and since by late, the game is usually nearly over, that's a big plus.

Now I'm playing as the Sicilians, byt I also like Hungarians, Byzantines, the French (100yrs total war http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ), GH, Russia and the Polish (guess why http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ). I don't like playing as the English because it's too easy, also some time before I would very often play as muslim factions, but finally got tired of it as they are too easy to play (except for the Almohads I think). The Danes seemed difficult, but not everything is always as it seems, so they got labelled too easy to......

The English suit my style of play - with Billmen being multi-purpose tools of death, Longbowmen raining death down from very long range, and Hobilars to chase down any who survive. Did I mention Gallowglasses?
If I feel like being religious, I'll play as the Spanish... for some reason I don't feel right unless it's a Spanish Inquisition (maybe it's because I'm a Python fan).
The Turks are also enjoyable, as they're not so ill-disciplined as the Catholic factions, yet don't quite feel so fanatically religious.
