EA washes hands of STW WE support (Sold Out versio

EA have informed me that they will no longer offer support for my version of STW WE. I had requested help due to crashing to desktop on clicking End Turn as described in another thread. In responses they had repeatedly said that this game was not designed to run on XP, which was surprising as the box states XP as one of the appropriate OS's. They wanted to know which version I had and when I informed them that it is the Sold Out version they refused to offer any more assistance. Apparently they've sold the rights to Sold Out.

Although the withdrawal of EA support is no great loss (they were about as much use as a tongue-less man in a cow-licking contest), this is a cop-out which I find utterly disgusting http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif I've said before,in Crashes to desktop thread, that I believe there is an inherant fault in this game causing the crashes and that it is the game designers responsibility to sort this out. They have abdicated from what is surely their responsibility. I do not believe that Sold Out have ADDED this fault to the game.

Anyway, if you have the Sold Out version of the game and you wish to waste your time asking EA for support I suggest you do not tell them you have the Sold Out version. And the best of luck to you: you'll need it

By the way can someone please tell me if the 1.12 patch (NOT 1.02b patch which I have installed) is appropriate for STW WE? I never seem to get an answer to this question.

I did not know that EA had backed out of Technical Support for STW but it does not surprise me. Given that Creative Assembly teamed up with Activision for Medieval Total War, it makes sense that EA would probably have made such a move.

At any rate the guys in the Apothecary here at the Org may be able to help you overcome your problems. As a Junior Patron you may not be able to post in there just yet, but if you post the problem in here I am more than happy to copy and post it on your behalf.

Failing that check out .COM and see if CA have any links to updated support pages.

On the subject of the patch, V1.02 is for Warlord Edition AND Mongol Invasion. V1.12 is for Normal Shogun without the expansion.

I am grateful for your offer to copy and post to the Apothecary, the actual problem is in my topic called something like STW WE crashes to desktop. I assume I can read stuff in the Apothecary?

If I understand you correctly patch v1.12 is not appropriate for STW WE. I ask this partly because v1.02b that I have installed came with the game on-disc and when installing it I was instructed to download what is presumably an updated version, which is a bit confusing. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I have the Sold Out version of the game.

As a junior patron you can read the apothecary but not post in there. Once you get promoted to senior patron (and above) you will be able to post in the apothecary. It doesn't usually take more than a few days to get promoted. In the mean time I have PMed Kraellin about your thread so hopefully he will be able to think of something, he does drop by the Entrance Hall from time to time when a junior patron needs help.
