Well, after about 3 days of recieving and sending emails to EA tech support, I have yet so solve my problem With STW WE. When ever I select my graphics card, aeforce 4 Mx440,64mb, my game suddenly turns into a small black screen in the top corner of my desktop, even after fooling with drivers and direct x all i have managed to do is turn the small black box into a full black screen. Because its a black screen I always have to totally reinstall my game to get it back to primary display driver. So, I decided to try the forums http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif . Any way, Im using a Geforce 4 mx440, 44.03 drivers (as suggested by ea tech support Brian K.) and I have just done a clean install of the game (as suggested by ea tech support Brian K.) I have a p4 1.5ghz 512mb o'rama. I am using direct x 9.0b. If you need anymore info just ask BTW, no offense or nothing but the hole junior patrons thing and only being able to post in the entrance hall, to me, kinda seems, well, different, like take me for instance, im only hear to get my game working, but then again, maybe if i get it working maybe these forums will become a lot more exciting
Please help me, you are literally my only hope http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

I have copied your post over to the Apothecary hopefully for quicker attention, from my own experience, I would say you need older version drivers here, which seem to work best in these situations and with MTW, sorry not familiar with STW , but MTW does perform better with older Nvidia version drivers such as 30.82 (which I use) and 41.09 . I am sure Kraellin from the Apothecary can solve your problem, so fear not and hang in there...LOS

Hello DaGrooved1. You should be able to reply to a topic in the Apothecary now that your problem is posted there. BTW, what version of Windows are you running?
The posting restrictions are a bit different from the norm, but then from what others have told us, our forums aren't the norm either. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

how strange. never heard of anyone having to re-install the game just because they got a black screen before.
at any rate, what's your o/s and is this a pci card or agp card? and have you run dxdiag with all the tests? and please, dont be skimy with your machine specs. the more information we have, the easier it is to handle these things.
also, take a look in the apothecary at the various windows tweaking threads and try out some different drivers. normally a black screen that hangs up is a driver issue. and like someone else said, stw/we is an older game and hardware was a bit different back then. newer drivers may not be what you want. the gf4 mx 440 is also older hardware, so older hardware, older game, may well require older drivers.

Umm sorry for such a long time to respond but I still cant seem to post in apo--carety--carth---apefarty---gah I cant pronounce it, anyway Im using 98se and have tried all drivers my graphics card supported, and ever directx from 8.1 and up. The only progress I've made is being able to select my card in the options menu, but then when I attempt to load anything my computer freezes when the bar reaches half way, I am on a P4 1.5ghz 512mb pc133 sdram, uhh a mouse and a key board, SoundMax Integrated Audio :P, Cant think of much else that helps.
