Yes it'd be useful. With the length of of 6 feet long the damage potential and armour penetrative quality at the tip would be increased because of the mass and velocity being focused into a single point.

Also the power of a good swing with a sword of this mass would surely knock over or at least "stun" opponents on foot and possibly dismount mounted opponents.

The primary weakness of having a sword of that size would be your venerabilty to arrows due to the lack of a shield, the slowness of an attack (especially if you miss) and the inabilty to effectively block. The ammount of space required for a good swing is also a downside.

When advanced plate armour came about a warrior was able to lose the shield and blocking ability and rely purely on the armor and his own overpowering attack as his defense. This is one of the reasons that such swordsman only became more common toward the end of the medieval era. Also as armies began switching to pikes and halbierds (which require space to wield in really close engagments) the two handed sword was able to be used in the thick of melee because his opponents needed space to fight as well. Then they're always the fear instillment factor of a large armoured knight swinging a giant sword at you to consider as well.

And darn you Brits making me used to writing "armour" opposed to "armor" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I was thinkin... wouldnt an unarmoured farmer with a good axe kill a heavy knight that moves kinda slow?
now im talking 1 on 1 fight.

It COULD happen but it be very unlikely, having a good axe doesn't mean you'll gain sparring skill and be able to know where his armour is weakest.
The Knight would probably win in this example.

No chance for the poor lad, unless it rains and the knight gets stuck in his rusty armour. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Depending on the armour though, it is possible to hit the joints but then you would have to be very swift to do so and get away without losing your head or getting cleft.

If the farmer had spent years training like the knight then probably, but seeing as he wouldn't have he would have to be damn lucky.

But In The Movies... just kidding... yeah i guess your right.
But... to make it fare 2 farmer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

one can run around the knight and push im over so he falls... then they can shop and stab all night long until they break upp his armor... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

(maybe i should shut up) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Quote[/b] ]The length is 1643 mm (64.7"), with a blade measuring 964 mm (37.2") (width 42 mm/1.65").

The blade is only 3 foot long...

I prefer a long sword... well forged, balanced, light, and sharp as Fat Joe's teeth (heh). Add to that a good kite shield, a good suit of armor, and good combat skills and you don't need huge swords at all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
