For some time now there is a big movement to the Linux and other forms of Free Operating Systems. This is a petition to CA for making several things available to Other OS too. This does not have to be a different CD or game set but a compilation of the existing code under different OS. Also there is a possibility that with the RTW a large part of the code becomes obsolete so there is a possibility of source code release that will help the development of Mega Mods.

I voted for the source code. The game, on its own, is only half-assed. If you give people a construction kit (no matter how bad or obsolete the manual is), the game will rise in the popularity of the modders and the gamers.
As it stands, a whole heck of a lot of stuff in MTW that is still hardcoded and is bugging the **** out of modders. Hense the reason why I say that CA only half-assed the game.
Plus I could care less about the other OSs. Why upgrade (or, rather, downgrade) to something like Lunix when only 0.01% of the games out on the market are supported. The majority of those are from id Software's bargain bin. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Hey, who wouldn't just kill for some good source
I would plug in a big chunk of Python so anyone could script anything that they wanted in an easy to understand language. If you are filmiar with Baulders Gate that is the way that they did it for thier developers to get the thing up and running quickly.

hi kekvitirae,
This would vane been two not one poll but I think that you can't have the MTW code for Windows. The reason most probably is that it has MS licensed code in it for optimizations. Under Linux or even better Solaris this would probably be free.
That is the reason that there is a FreeCiv for Linux (based on CivII) but not for Windows The best they can do is give us some code from the DLLs and some of the executables that don't come in contact (direct that is) with the MS stuff.
The main reason for Linux executables is that it will cost them nothing to very little and it will not get much space on the CDs. Secondly the reason that Linux has some few games is that no Game company makes the step fearing a small war from MS.
Finally the lighter structure of Linux and the better manipulation of processes will give a lot of power to games like MTW that need true Multi-Processing environment.

YEah, but doesnt MTW run on DX? If so, doesnt DX not run on Linux? I think that you will see a lot more OpenGL games being released soon that will run on Linux.

I dont know... why would you downgrade to lunix? Beats me. But I would recommend an upgrade to Linux. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
