lol.. I find this kinda funny. every thing started in the year 1257. 75% of my empire rebeled. I don't mean with one or 2 stacks and low levels gens.. they where coming full force. 4-5 stacks. 5-8 star gens. the byz ( witch our my allies) attacked what they could of the rebels.. beat the crap out of them, then handed me the land back. has that ever happen to you? now, the year is 1312 and I'm getting things back in order. As Hungarians, I had 1/3 of my empire rebel. The rebellions were led or joined by disloyal generals. At the time, I controlled 2/3 of Europe (High Period) but had a weak monarch. The rebellions occurred in areas distant from the monarch and usually well-inland. I couldn't immediately transfer large forces by sea to suppress the revolts in the rebellious provinces.

Now, I try to weed out the low loyalty generals. I try to maintain a spy in every one of my provinces. If there is widespread disloyalty and likelihood of civil war, spies will often provide a warning.

I also make sure my monarch travels around the empire & visits remote provinces--to remind everyone who is really in charge. That seems to boost loyalty in distant areas.

Another way I've boosted overal loyalty is by successfully framing a disloyal general for treason.

I usually end up maintaining garrisons of about 200 troops (militia or other cheap troops) in each province to maintain loyalty. In inland regions, I will try to maintain a stack (a mobile task force of professionals) which can suppress revolts if they break out in neighboring provinces. Ideally, the task force is located in a central province and can intervene in several neighboring provinces (but not at the same time of course&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Playing as the Turks I once had 3 provinces rebel, then the next year the Byz. slaugterd them and gave the provinces back. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As the Germans, go either way, get a big enough empire, and you'll have disloyal generals everywhere

hehe... this game is sooo coooooool.. ive had it for about a year.. and not got sick of it yet... or 6 months.. maybe 7. something liek that.. but imso never gonna get sick of it lmao.. GEEEK

What was your king doing when this happened? Most of the time that I've had mass rebellions was caused by a king being out of touch. If a boat goes down and breaks the naval chain, all of a sudden the distance to the king becomes much, much larger for many provinces. And if you do some exceptionally foolish (like having your king lead a naval invasion of a province without a port), it can be very bad for loyalty.

The moral probably is that you shouldn't use you king in naval invasion. Unless you plan not to have him come back anyway, which can be useful in it's own right.

It happens sometimes that your allies attack rebels in your province and return the province to you, but to me it happened only once, as far as I know. The king's presence in a province will boost loyalty in general population, but will hardly influence disloyal generals when you're heading towards a civil war. Keep spies, set up your generals for treason, but also use assassins and, if Catholic faction, inquisitors Let 'em burn http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I've noticed that sometimes when your empire is starting to get large, you can get a sudden loss of loyalty in all your provences across the board. This seems to happen just to make it a little harder for the player right when they're starting to feel comfortable.

Yes I had the terrible mistake of being so pi**ed off at the Byzantines that I decided to be a a little chivalrous and use my king to kill theres. Well there king was dead and so was every troop on the island of crete. Well the looting began and I think the guys didnt want to go back to there ugly wives so decided to destroy the port. Well that was 4 horrible years of waiting on the island for a port to be rebuilt and defeated Spain got most of Spain back plus all of western Africa and lost 90 percent of my land due to rebellion but gained it all back but Spain in a few short years as I did retreat to castles and retreats to 1 province surrounded by many. Since I was able to hold about 2thirds of the castles that I retreated to I didn't lose to many buildings.

This would have never happened if the A.I. didnt get those overpowered ships that can destroy a whole fleet and the king might have lived to die of an old age. But decided it better that the king goes down because so will his ships

That's what makes this game so great. Just when you find your unstoppable unit army mix...the game throws a couple of rebellions at you to keep things interesting. Far too many games progress to a point where your units, men, magicians, monsters, etc become unbeatable. It's just a matter of time before you win...strategy and tactics don't matter anymore.
By far, this is the longest I have ever continually played a game. Before you can get FAT & HAPPY the game throws something in the mix to mess things up(rebellion, unexpected death, back-stabbing allies or ???).

hehe.. yep.. I'm dealing with a cival war now... MWHAHA... i took the royal side. even thou the rebels had more men,land, and eerything else. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
