Mine's not a wife (yet http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif) but a fiancee. Anyway, what may be surprising she had actually finished M:TW sooner than I did http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif , hehe. Fact: she'd autoresolve every single battle but that is still quite an achievement, I guess.
Since that moment she stopped playing the game for whatever reason (Sims? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif), and I have been playing ever since what makes over a year now. For all that time she would eagerly listen me talking my M:TW related stories...
Cheers to all patient women and those less patient too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif .

whats wrong with you people Gamers are not supposed to have personal lives How can you expect to have a girlfriend/fiancee/wife AND have enough time to kill those Almohands??? Get a lack of life
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Well my girlfriend doesnt mind MTW or STW she is more of the RPG type , so she will listen but will not play...
Well my wife only concern is " Its bedtime, are you going to sleep tonight or not?"

it is very simple for me.
I DON'T TALK ABOUT GAMES TO MY GIRLFRIEND
it not only is a relationship killer if she is not a gamer but also social life killer because it works its way back to everyone and if you have nothing to talk about but games then you must lead a pretty pitiful life
thanks dessa

My wife got used to me playing M:TW (and other computer games).
She only gets annoyed when the king and the queen mate like rabbits and she gets two hear the crying baby sound every second turn http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Not a wife, a girlfriend, and she finds this amusing.

My wife complains about the same thing. That and when she hears me execute enemy soldiers during battle. She doesn’t seem to understand that I am just trying to protect the lives of my men in future battles.
My wife is the only person I know well in this town (my friends moved back home once uni was over), and so she gets to hear my stories. She will attempt to look interested in what I am saying, but I can tell that in her mind she is begging me to stop. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

There should be more options on this poll, so I'll Null the vote for me as it doesn't count.
My last GF didn't like MTW that much (or my fixation with history).
Maybe there should be warnings on the box when RTW comes out, "Warning this product can be dangerous to your love life" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

My wife has finally accepted her fate as the spouse of a computer game addict. Of course, she is equally addicted to quilting, so she can hardly criticize... MUHAHA.
Her usual response to my babbling is the "eye roll", sometimes accompanied by the "heavy sigh". As she is a devout catholic however, I get some dirty looks when I constantly moan about "that {long string of expletives} Pope-- he excommunicated me AGAIN. What is WRONG with you people" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/argue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
I actually bought Shogun for my wife; then I found that I enjoyed fighting the battles; so she would do the campaign strategy and I would command the armies on the field.
Of course, then I started to play my own campaigns. Then went online. Then MTW came out; sometimes we do the same thing - she campaigns and I fight. Then I get online for hours at a time and she drifts off to read, watch TV, or play with a pet.
When I tell her about my campaigns she usually winds up pointing out some failure or other problem with my empire. Gah She's usually right
Still, she has never been interested in the battles, always lets me fight em or uses autoresolve. Nor does she post in the forums, but she did get a kick out of this thread

Me darlin' (from her study, knowing I'm on my PC) "What are you doing in there?"
Me "Err...Just doing some stuff, ya know, pokin' around and so..."
Me darlin' "You are playing that annoying game again, aren't you?"
Me (offended) "No, I'm not And it's not annoying, it's stimulating, intelligent and exciting I can rewrite the history in this"
Me darlin' "You know, you should play a decent game for a change. Quit goofing around with those tiny poligons and play a men's game, Call of Duty for instance."

Hehe the most common I used to get was "Are you STILL playing that damn game?" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
My ex was an avid gamer. Therefore, she would actually be interested in the stuff I had to say. The present one is more along the line of "*sigh* whatever makes you happy"...
My girlfriend is very tolerant and understanding when it comes to these things. She knew what she was getting as we met through extreme online playing. Therefore acting surprised at my games addiction wouldn't work. She's also largely responsible for the problem since she's given me about 98% of all my games and even my last computer. When she wants to cheer me up she tends to ask me about MTW or other games and listen with "interest". She'll even remember some of this stuff the next time I start to babble. Oh, and she brings me beer and stuff while I'm playing. Some guys have all the luck and I'm one of them.
Wish my wife brough me a beer while i was playing. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
However i do remeber a situation in asheron call where a lady was trying to sue the developers for making the game to adictive. Her argument where situated around her being unable to hold a job because she keeped taking days off to the play the dam game. I beleive in that sort of situation a sledge hammer is the only cure.

Am loving these replies.... especially the 'imaginary friend' - it's so not true.... lol
My wife is also cool about her husband's obsession with MTW - what a woman But she still thinks that the best Computer Game ever made was Manic Miner for the ZX Spectrum.
She occasionally can't understand why I love MTW, but now we have 2 children and my little boy (5) thinks it's SO great. Dad CAN be cool after all Yes people - children ARE the perfect excuse for MTW gamers to carry on playing.... You just gotta get past the first 5 years
Sadly, my little girl (2) already seems to be following in the shopping, buying shoes, etc trend that her Mother enjoys. I must remember to show her the delights of slaying Peasants. This should also help with future boyfriends.
btw I'm interested... I'm 32 - but do we know who the oldest regular MTW gamer is? Is anyone going to admit it??
/me believes theres a thread concerning this.........
I'm 53, so you can stand easy vis being too old to play, lol.

Hi all,
Wifey refers to MTW as 'your nerd game' (and to time commanders as 'your nerd programme'http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. She did sit down to have a look once, and lasted for about 3 minutes and gave up.
Mind you, she can play Championship Manager for hour after hour after hour after hour, so the only fight we have is who's game gets to be played.... (She doesn't bring me beer though, sob sob)
Cheers.

hehehe.... My wife works for H&R Block. During tax season she comes home with endless tales about customers she had that day and describes, in detail, the minutae of the tax forms, etc. As a dutiful husband I listen attentively and utter the occasional "UhHuh", "Really?", and so on.
When I, at last, am tired of hearing these stories I begin with, " You won't BELIEVE what happened to me today". Having thus engaged her attention, I launch into the tribulations of expanding the Hungarian empire, the intrigues, betrayals, and battles. My wife has ZERO interest in these. Pretty soon she announces that she gets the point and I hear no more about taxes. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

when I had a girlfriend (an American one living here), she used to play MTW with me all the time. She would sit and watch over my shoulder, and she'd tell me what to do, then I didn't listen, and lose. Then she'd grin at me and say "I told you so http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ". We used to hook up our PC's and then fight online. My girl loves hearing about the trivial yet epic events of the campaign, the excommunication, the puppet papalcy, the re-emergence of the french, the spanish inquision, the betrayal of the hungarians. Hmmm. Sentences that I hear from wife regarding Medieval - Total War:
"You better not lose your job because you stayed up so late playing that damn game."
"How can you sit there and play that damn game so long?"
"Should I set a timer for you?"
"I can't believe that I bought you such a stupid game."
"I hope you don't plan on me buying you the sequel to that damned game."
"You better save your game before I hit the power button on the computer."
"Will you pay attention to me instead of that stupid game?"
"Did you come to bed this morning at 4:30 a.m. because you stayed up playing that game? You know that we have to go to _ or be at __ today? You better not be sleepy"
"You said one more turn. I know you've been playing longer than one turn. I can HEAR it keep going..."
"Are you gonna play that game again tonight?"
The funny thing is, without her I think I would've lost my job and stopped attending social functions and just played the damned game.

Well, it just happens that I added Muslim princess names to the mod a few days ago, so I could certainly do it. Let me know which faction. Of course, if you ever get her as a princess, you'll have to get her approval before you marry her off.
As for guys, they're liable to be inbred perverts, so that one might not be a good idea.
Well, I guess I could add them to the heroes list, but that doesn't mean that they won't become inbred perverts later on.
Perhaps I'll add you to the same faction as LeAndra, so she can be married off to you, and give you the drunkard vice. Who says the game isn't realistic? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I used to have a computer room, but Maree complained about not getting to see me in the evenings. So everything was moved into our living room and set up about 3 feet from the fireplace... desert combat -4 to morale
I cannot crank up the volume on the subwoofer because the goldfish get traumatised and Maree cannot hear the television... sigh... and I did so enjoy the deep thudding sounds of catapults... it just isn't the same with head phones http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My wife treats our computer like another woman in my life when I am playing...absolutely unacceptable and she doesn't want to hear about my progress..She does still let me play on a regular basis.Must have been the comment I made about her at least having me at home to keep an eye on what I am doing... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
