What I am suggesting is that during deployment you have, say, 3 "rally point flags" which you can place anywhere on the map. When a unit rallies it rests up to a minimum of 1 fatigue bar and then walks to the nearest rally point to await orders.

If you add pre-designated camera positions (maybe hit F7 to cycle through), you can quickly and easily jump to your rally points and see what units need to be re-deployed.

This is how many generals would handle the issue. Before the battle the general would designate rally points around the battlfied-- "If it goes poorly, rally at the farmhouse", etc.

If we can make the AI a little better, so that the rallying units go to "the closest rally point which is not occupied by an enemy unit or which will not cause you to pass near an enemy unit" that would be awesome. If all rally points are inaccessible then the unit would stay where it is-- like htey do now.

Finally-- if you combine this with Amp's "auto rally" (which I dont know how I feel about yet), you get a very streamlined rally system that allows for more concentration on the battle at large.

What do y'all think about pre-designated rally points?

I think I like the idea, except that I would like the general to be the rallying point. General dead: same effect as now. General is alive: that's where the troops look forward to ralley.

If proximity of general give some morale boost then it will give the battle some more spice.

Hmmm, that gives me an even better idea.

1) You setup the predesignated rally points during deployment

2) During battle you can order the general to raise a flag/standard which acts as an order to all rallying troops (within line of sight)to rally to the general.

3) If the general dies or is captured, or if the general does not raise the "rally to me" flag, the troops will rally to their predesignated rally points.

This CANT be the only way routers run arround the battle-field (gen even more so) or we are back to STW where-in routers ran to a single direction even if they ran into enemy units....

TGI-- the enemy wouldn't know where your rally points were-- only you would. Of course they could deduct where they might be by watching your troops rally and move toward them...but initially they would be secret.

Well you cant really put a rally point behind enemy lines so ya have to put them behind your own ... so if ya get 1 tiny cav unit behind the lines that would

a) makes rallying difficult
b) can easilly rout any exhausted unit that just arrived ...

well thats how it should be, isnt it? Cav, especially light cav, was generally used to chase off routers.
