Like I said on the other thread, I don't like MI and although I have tried to play it, I can't get the hang of it. But I have resumed my love affair with Shogun and am on most nights now. Its a shame though cos the standard has really dropped and I see myself getting worse, however the numbers are well up recently. I like to see the references to the tourney..this means it has done what intended..added a little spice.

It makes me laugh all the experts and those who say stuff like 'I dont play because nobody is good enough'....until you master on-line you are nothing..AI is feeble.

I also feel that alot of the guys going back to the original shoggy server are the same guys who cannot make the grade on MI (maybe not all cases)....I mean if your up in the premier league with the likes of the Rage/Wolves and the Dreads and the other clans....you are not noticed...but when you go back down to the 2 division (old shoggy) you are a star.

To get a challenge and feel how good this game is....the tourneys are the answer...a real heart pump when the battle cry goes out....and if you dont like what I typed.....find me on MI and bring a spare head.

p.s..guns are down graded on MI now with the patch.

RageMonsta, you're absolutely right about not making the grade on MI. I simply can't get the hang of it - I have floated around under another name a couple of times and found myself getting beat by complete newbies. I found this so fustrating, escpescially seeing as I'd like to think that I was one of the better players at olde Shoggy. Nevertheless, the fact that Kenchi is struggling at the moment has convinced me to have another crack at MI - tips would be appreciated!

btw, ninja...i played u many times with different names in old stw, and u wasnt 1 of the better player!

u was an average player....

the point is, u need 100 games in MI and u will be back on the same level u have in stw now...

many newbies buy the old shogungame and dont want to buy the add-on, coz they have to learn first stw.... and they dont know the differences ...

the gun issue...well interestingly enough I was talking to SEB last night and the veterans will know SEB from the past...a fine example of a good hand to hand general...anyway he has been away for a long time (pre MI) and the reason he left was due to the crazy gun style that was adopted in old shoggy...
There was a craze and people started using 7 guns etc....I am happy to say that at the time CLAN RAGE avoided this practise and still ate most people for lunch.
the craze developed in MI.....sadly enough....and we saw a group of non vets take to MI early (before the Euro release) and the trend was set.
Well the good news is this...the patch has made the gun a victim...nag cav...cav speed and the archers have been put back to how they were....
As for ironing board....well it seems that alot of the newbies like this map...let them have it...they will never improve.
Ninja Killer...come back in your own name....take the loses like we all do...because the wins will soon follow.

Monsta is always open for talk of tactics...I am now at the stage where i can see who will win just from the unit selection (aslong as they are not completely new)......my style of play is --LAZY GENERAL....I see the danger but I am too lazy to do anything....

always willing to promote the best series of games ever created....Monsta is in MI and Monsta will help if he can.

p.s...btw Rage are still evilllllllllllllll.....but kinda old!

MI has been an adjustment -- and will be for everyone. I've had to go through tons of different armies and Honor/weapon combos to finally find a solid base army that I do well with. My tactics had to radically alter, but now I'm winning more than losing ... so it just takes time. Eat the losses and enjoy.

BTW I hated MI in its 1st two versions -- the play speed, unit strengths and honor SUCKED. BUT with the new 1.02 Patch -- it plays awesome.

It is much like the old STW except stray gun shots have been toned down, and you have many more CAV and unit options.

I worked on the WE/MI rebalance effort, and it has taken me over 100 games online to get to the level I was at in STW. I've thought about going back to play some STW, but I think I'd be terrible at it. Slower infantry and faster cavalry requires a different sense of timing than in STW. WE/MI v1.02 was optimized at 7000 koku rather than 5000 koku because of the cost of the upgrades, the cost of cavalry and the cost of the Mongol units. You get a pretty nice game at anything from 7000 to 10,000 koku. You can play low koku games, and the morale will be just as fragile as it was in STW since the morale system in both games is the same now.

The major things to be aware of are that HC is improved to the point that it will beat a WM but still loose to a YS, naginata is stronger defensively but will loose to a WM, a good portion of the attack strength of cavalry is in the charge, YA and guns have less armor and the back killing by guns is much less than before. It doesn't mean guns are weak. It just means most of the kills are in the target unit.

If we had more time to extensively test the v1.02, the stats could have been refined for a little better balance, but we have to live with them as is. If the strong guns are a bother, I would recommend playing with an agreed gun limit of 4 or less.

I never played Ye Olde Shoggye and probably never will. All the vets get misty-eyed and say it was better but I wonder if alot of that isn't just nostalgia. A longing for the days when the experience was new and the thrill more profound.
I like MI and since I have nothing to compare it to I don't feel left out after hearing what some of these vets say about not getting the hang of it. That makes the playing field level for those of us who didn't have the "advantage" of playing the old version. Even though I started playing late as far as MI goes I don't feel too particularly outclassed against some of the more seasoned MI online players. If all the old vets could just pick up MI and not miss a beat I probably would not be playing the game online today. Plus it seems that there is still a small, but steady influx of newbies on the server eager for action and the lessons of experience (or is that Tera undercover? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif LOL)
Also, thanks to Monsta for stirring up the community with his Tourny and tireless posting prowess!

I have been having a problem staying online for the last few weeks or I would be playing every night. I know that I have clanm8s online every day.
I remember when MI came out and I loved it! Prior to the patch I really liked how the warriors would stay till the last and not run off...Then the patch came out and I loved it all over again! I found that everytime the game changes you have to change your strategy....keeps it from getting stale.....
It is funny to see people saying that the attendance is UP to the 20's....
As an old vet I can remember the daze when it was more like around 100 at times.( sometimes even more)
I love this game and hope to get a cable connection soon so that I can play again!
I am very happy that this tourney is putting some life into the game as well! Great JOB!

STW is fun, and so is MI. I am particularly more for MI cos of the wider choice of unit. NC kicks arse b4 the patch, and they still do.

The only two problems I face is firstly not having enof interesting players to play with in 3v3 4v4 friendlies. Most seem more interested in 1v1 comp games; second is I'm still an average player lol *being average can be fun too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif*

I play both MI and original STW online.

Perhaps MI is better...it's faster for sure and easy to host a 3v3 or 4v4...love it.

But I also play old STW because it's hard to leave good friends and even clanmembers behind to rot away.

So I have to devide my time on both...probably not the best way to become a good player, but it's fun.

Havent played MI since patch 1.02 came out. I must be one of the old STW players that just couldnt migrate. I used to play to a reasonable standard in STW (Was up to about 145 hon I think).
