View Full Version : The years is 1226 and my empire is falling apart !
I play as the English, started Early on normal difficulty. For the last 100 years everything was going pretty smoothly, my armies are growing, I have nice trade routes, about 600,000 florins in the bank and apart from some minor troubles with the Egyptians and French early on, I was not having any difficulties. I conquered half of Western Europe, Iberian Peninsula, all North Africa, Middle East, Turkey and Greece. Currently I am beating on the Italians (who show some annoying resistance at sea).
About 5 years ago or so the game offered me the minor victory, which I refused. Now the year is 1226 and all hell broke lose. Suddenly, without any notice, my entire empire is rebelling. Everything except the northern parts of my kingdom lost any loyalty and is ready to kick out my limited garrisons and take over my hard earned lands. I think about 70% of my lands are in this state. With the ongoing war against the Italians and the accessibility of some of these troublesome provinces, I don’t have the power to tackle this.
I checked the saved game several times to see what happened but couldn’t find anything. My king hasn’t died and there wasn’t any event for him to lose influences or a reason for provinces to lose loyalty.
So, what happened and why all of the sudden everything is falling apart? Is there something I can do besides losing half my empire and slowly taking it back later on ?
Thanks.

Is your king connected to all your provinces? Or is he an absentee ruler, out conquering the world?
Happened to me, similar situation, futher along the line (on elite though) - I sent my king off to take Egypt, did, but destroyed the port in the process, and half of my provinces revolted, along with the re-emergence of the Polish, Russians and Golden Horde.
My king now never leaves home.

Double check your kings positioning, because it is VERY important for overall loyalty.
A gap in your fleet network, an enemy ship blockading your fleet, your king being in a inland province, on an island without a port... all of these things can make loyalty fall very quickly in a large sprawling empire.
Be very Careful with your King and keep him in a central map location with access to most of your provinces by sea.
Haven't thought about that but that must be it. When I started my war with the Italians, their fleets were blocking the Mediterranean sea in several location and I couldn't get rid of all of them until now.
My king always sits in England (Wessex) and rules from there. I guess I will move him to a more central location for the duration of the war until I can get rid of the annoying Italians.
Thanks

Civil wars happen almost always...
There are many different ways how to prevent them. Quick rundown of those that I can think of right now:
1. Conquest brings your kings influence up and makes rebelions less probable.
2. Move the king around your empire, it boosts loyalty.
3. Have a lot of spies in your provinces. They'll usually warn when you have a greater number of disloyal generals
4. Disloyal generals must be removed from commanding great armies, you can disband their units, kill them with assassins, put them on trial with your inquisitors, frame them with your spies, or boost their loyalty with giving them significant titles
5. Building up your provinces also helps increasing loyalty and happiness
Well, these are few... Can't think of any more right now, hope it helped a little bit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Just buy back everybody with your enormous stash of cash. If it happens again it will be even easier because they'll probably pick up the cheap slut V&V.

Isn't it part of the game when you've conquered 3./4 of the map there is a huge rebellion everyware, just to see if you're serious about winning?

Couldn't have said it better.
If you have 600K florins in the bank and 227 years left, you have nothing to panic about.
All the advice above is good, but be advised that you'll face civil wars any time you go for total victory. I think it's automatic.

Besides the spies and what others have suggested, build watch towers and border forts. They can be helpful in reducing the effect of foreign agents.
