Troop Formations

Hey can you explain the formations, like Basic formation, Special Formation and all that please? I was wonder if it could be clarified, or could you direct me to a guide.

The Dungeon FAQ, in the Repository, has a post on this. The notes in the texts themselves are the main source of info that I know about.
Myself, I spent a lot of time trying to understand it all, and I guess I didn't do a very good job, since my attempted formation produced very inconsistent results with various unit mixes.
I wouldn't recommend getting into it unless you are very serious about this paricular topic.
