View Full Version : need strategy with italians..
i will play with italians first time ..so i dont know anything about thier playingstyle, units etc..
so i need strategies..(vi 2.01,i am using medmod 3.14,dificulty will be hard..)
---and units had been changed in med mod.is there any tech tree of medmod 3.14??
thax for replies..
Just a few hints.
1) If you like to be aggressive eliminate the sicilians. You need their lands to build your units.
2) contandina, sailors and italian light inf can be built with a bonus in your lands. They make an excellent early army. Make an extra archer-province since you'll be building lots of crusades in genoa (see below)
3) Try to make an empire in the holy lands too if you're playing GA. You can recruit better cavalry there than at home.
4) rule the seas (goes without saying)

I usualy take naples on the second round with my king and 2-3 urban militia, take sicily and malta as fast as i can and then rome so that the pope wont get strong if you can handle an excommunication that is, leave him be in the papal states and then he wont bother you for the rest fo the game..in the mean time ive been building my navy up and control the entire mediteranian..you should have such a high amount of cash coming in to be able to raise a force to fight where ever and with who ever you want, remember to go to castle preety fast in venice so that you can build italian light infantry that will help you defend preety easely againt the HRE and Hungarians if they plan to attack..and use crusades
Apart from the fact that Italy can't build urban militia and that the sicilians will probably block your naval assault the idea is quite good. Would work in "vanilla" MTW, maybe that was what you thought about?
I got rather far on medmod 3.13 (around 1155) on early / hard.
The key is to keep building units in every province ... thousands of them.
You will need to rule the seas, or get lucky in some naval battles and seperate the left half of the med from the right.
Also, keep a strong force near the papacy, but if you eliminate him, he will come back with a great deal of highly advanced units (all the crusader units).
Keep creating crusades as well. Those units are invaluable.
hmm..i liked this italian l.i.these guys are rock http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Well, I don't have MedMod, but when I played the Italians, I expanded East first into the rebel territories (you have to bribe one, or else the Hungarians will take it very very early, like in Turn 2 or 3) and then tried crusading into the Holy Lands.
I try to be a good Catholic most of them time when playing a Catholic faction and I don't attack other Catholic forces unless provoked.

Why does the Italian navy have glass-bottomed ships?
So they can take a peek at the previous Italian navy as they sail outta the harbour Boom Boom http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Sorry, couldn't help it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
