I build things like bowyers (and their subsequent improvements) and can't build any archers Have all the pre-requisite buildings for certain units changed? How do I find out what units I can build with which buildings? [http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif] I'm also having similar trouble with militia and so on. I build the buildings it says you need for urban militia, but the option to make them does not appear.
What faction you are determines what units you can build even more than the vanilla game. Archers and Urban Militia are not available to most factions. In 3.14 Archers are only available to the HRE, Swiss and Russians. Urban Militia are only available to the French and Burgundians.
Even if you are playing one of those factions if the province is outside of your Homelands then you are unlikely to be able to build the units anyway.
The easiest way to see if a building will allow a unit immediately is to right-click in the build screen, it will tell you. It doesn't say if it will be of use in the future. The faction unit lists and their build requirements are all in the Charts and Readmes folder that comes with the mod and is put in the root folder.
On the units text page of the excel sheet these columns will tell you most of what you need.
AC - Factions that can build unit
AD - Provinces where the unit can be built
C - Cost of unit on info parchment.
D - Upkeep of unit (text value). Real value on info parchment.
M - Valour bonus province
Q - Build requirements for unit.
T - Period(s) available.
V - Walk/Run/Charge speeds, Elite status [Samurai(yes)], Charge/Attack/Defence/Armour, Ammo, # of Rows.
AJ - Discipline status
AO - Armour piercing?
All the info is valuable but these should cover the basics.
FrankyMole;
Quokka speaks no lies, eh?
Ya might want to check out the medieval/charts and readmes/ folder, found in the game directories once you've loaded the mod.
Wes's readme from the 'site' page is a mandatory read. Repeat: mandatory Cant play this mod w/o careful attention to it........

Thank you for all the pointers, I didn't know where the readme's and charts actually were
Still seems very odd that the English can't build archers, though.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
The English can build Longbows in MM, make sure u have a swordsmith as well. and it has to be inside your homelands to. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Monk, Thanks for an answer before I asked the question. But there's more where that came from. With England on early what's needed to build Claymores (early Gallowglas) in Northumbria. Are they mercenary only? I can build FMAA there but... On a more general note if you click on a structure in the to-build page for a province will it say "with swordsmith you can have long bows"
Thanks again for the info.

Claymores: hmm i don't really remember, i havn't played as the english since MM 3.13 and i now use MM 3.14 Though i do remember they didn't have very high building reqs as I was building them early on. My guess is maybe a swordsmith and town guard, but IIRC they are not mercenary troops
Building: You talking about right clicking a building to get information, then yes but it will say "with bowar" or something as well (or should). Longbows req bow maker(could be level 2 or 1) and swordsmith.
Thanks, I'll look into it tonight.
Claymores can be built in Scotland or Northumbria only and require a Swordsmith. Gallowglaich replace them in High and Late and require a Swordsmiths Workshop.
Longbows, Welsh Longbows and English Longbows are all only available in Wales, Mercia and Wessex.
Longbows: Early, High, Bowyers Workshop + Swordsmith
Welsh Longbows: High, Late, bonus in Wales, Bowyers Guild + Swordsmiths workshop
English Longbows: Late, bonus in Wessex, Master Bowyer + Swordsmiths Guild + Armourers Workshop
Many English units are available only in a few of their homeland provinces. For example their cavalry is only available in the French provinces and Wessex, Highland Clansmen and Scottish Pikemen in Scotland only, the longbows and Gallowglaich as above and Hobilars, Irish Dartmen and Bonnachts in Ireland only.
I have done a complete faction by faction unit list for 3.14 that I can send to anyone who wants it. Even better would be to get it stored at the Org so it could be downloaded. MedMod questions pop up all the time.
Thanks Quokka, Your post was clarity in itself. I figured out what the problem was last night but I won't embarrass myself by explaining it. I guess pride is the last thing to go.
