Viking Invasion?

I ahve read numerous threads where Viking Invasion or VI is mentioned. As a newbie, i have only got Medieval Total War.

What is Viking Invasion, is this an add-on bought seperately and roughly how much does it cost?

What extras does this give you? Does it benefit the original game of Medieval Total War like adding units/features?

What is the actual Viking Invasion gameplay like?


I have also read many things about Shogun Total War, i believe this is the original, Medieval Total War is the most recent addition?

What is STW like and what benefits does this have? Is it worth buying this game?


Are there any other releases out / or due out in the near future? Rome Total War?

Yes, Viking Invasion is an expanision pack to be bought separately. Cost here in Australia is about $50, about 20 of your pounds but have no clue what you would pay in UK. You could probably get 2nd hand for a good price?

Viking Invasion gives you a new separate campaign (around 800AD, can't remember, only just bought it myself) and also additional units for the original campaign. If you want to know more check out the Total War official website www.totalwar.com

I just bought original Shogun myself and have Mongol Invasion on order - couldn't get the Warlord Edition which is the latest version of Shogun and includes Mongol Invasion expansion and also new unts and updates AFAIK. If you can get this version, do so.

As to whether it is worth buying if you really like Medieval then it might be worth checking out. I have been having fun playing it although there are some differences to get used to. have a look through the Shogun hall and read some of the threads. Also, FroggBeastEgg has just released a strategy guide and has some information on the units in Shogun - worth a http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/read.gif

Rome Total War is due out aroung August 2004 and is the next in the series.

shogun is great, but if you already have medieaval its hardly worth buying. STW is in comparison fairly weak, and all the little things that they fixed in MTW will drive you nuts (I went back and played it for a wee bit after getting MTW- after chasing the hojo king from hill to hill for about ten minutes i got fed up and uninstalled it)
