I see its possible to edit Famous Kings in default_heroes.txt.

But is there any way to choose or even know when a given King in the list will appear in the game? I notice the first King in the list is the starting King...what about those following? When do the 2nd, 3rd, etc. Kings appear? For instance, is there any way to have King #2 succeed King #1?

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Posted over from Entrance Hall; personally I have no idea...any of the pro's have an answer?

Wow Thanks HopAlong...I actually tried to post it here before I read all the board rules. I was afraid no one would see it in Entrance Hall...

So even if I get no answers here, thanks for helping me out. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You have a list of forenames for every faction in default_heroes.txt, the first "N"(number different for every faction) entries are used for kings. And you also have a list of famous kings for every faction.

Then in the startpos (as more deeply explained in other posts here) you set the first king for the factions plus the roman number for every forename of the list above.

Example:

English

Forename List

Henry
William
Edward
Richard
John

Famous Kings
//Name //no. ...stats (acumen, piety, etc...)
0 3 ...v&v... THIS IS Henry (name 0) III (no. 3)
2 5 THIS IS Edward (name 2) V (no. 5)
0 4 THIS IS Henry (name 0) IV (no. 4)

Startpos

SetStartLeader FN_ENGLISH 0 5 33420

So you start the game with Henry III (famous king 0).

During the game the king gave birth to 3 sons. Their names are chosed from the list of "princely" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif names, so we have Prince William, John and Henry.

William, the first born, dies in battle. John is killed by his father dropping a spy above him (because he was a bit too much unloyal) so the heir is Henry and he will become Henry IV and will get the profile of the relative famous king in the list (the third).

If the heir would have been John, because the spy couldn't proved him guilty, then we'd have had King John I (as the 5th name in the list is 0 in the startpos meaning there were no kings with that name before) and no entry in the famous king list so his attributes and vices and virtues would be determined by various factors of the game and a bit of randomness.

That's all what I know. Please correct me if something is different as I got all this through the reading of the previous posts and a lot of trial and error.

Thanks Berengario. I'll test it out and if it works I'll let you know.

Your name refers to Berengario I del Friuli, King of Italy?

You got it right, that longobardic "brigand-style" king? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
