They are using Nvidia 5900's on p4 3Ghz fast HD's and 512Mb RAM for Time Commanders.
That should be a pretty middle of the road machine by the time RTW is released.
I think that's an old screenie. The horses look like they've been fixed (necks anyway) on TC now.
WOW
I'd certainly hate to be the guy who hold up that standard. What does it say, actually?

Come on guys, you want to play a cutting edge battle game with a full 3D engine with warfare that can handle thousands of troops, but you still want to crank up the old P2 to play it on....

Question:Why are 'northern' european axemen fighting romans in the desert? That and, any hope for an earlier release?

Desert? Looks like a beach to me. The hills in the background are green. Are there any beaches like that on the Mediterranean?

ARGGGHHH, NO MORE http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
This is like Chinese water torture, letting drops of water falling on a prisoners forehead until this one goes insane Feeding us with little screenies, I'll go berserk until fall 2004 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
Err, this looks like a beach, but it's rather... desert-like, isn't it? Hmmm... where could that be?

Those men are also the Silver Shields, a Greek-made copy of the Roman legion. Kraxis told me that.
This means that the battle could be around Greece, if the setting was meant to be near any of the armies' homelands.

Weren't the Silver Shields an elite unit in Alexander's army?
If so, how could they be a copy of the Roman legions?

Awesome picture http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Although I would like for CA to be more truethfull and historically acurate in their depiction of Celts, Gauls and "barbarians" in general... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
They seem so stereotyped http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
All units still march in sink.
I don't think that is the Mediteraneean, despite the description. I think it's Britain - Caesar's flag btw http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
Teutonic Knight
12-17-2003, 19:34
sooo, it's Caesar's army and a Greek army fighting celtic (germanic whatever) axemen on the beach http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

Of course, Germanic troops can show up everywhere. Just like Almohads can invade Scandinavia. That may not be historical accurate, but the real barbarians weren´t controlled by the player...
BTW, the axes of the Chosen Axeman seem less huge than on the description pic.

those are normal axemen, not chosen ones. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Ehmm... Thanks Konga, haven't been considered a source that warrent a direct mention right away before. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Ludens, the Silver Shields were established by Alexander by the very best of the Hypaspists. The idea of this unit was adopted at the very least by the Seleucids. Over time the Silver Shields changed in form, from phalangites, over peltasts, and back to swordinfantry when the Seleucids saw the Roman legionaries and how effective they were.
True though, they would never have looked like this, but the idea is correct enough.

Silver Shields were thus the Argiraspides... or however you spell that crazy name http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif
Aha, so a Silver Shield ment different things as time passed. Interesting.
Thank you for your answer, Kraxis and Wizzy
