How do i set the enddate for the game?I know this has been asked before but i just cant find it anymore.
Try this:
SetGameEndDate:: 1800 (or whatever)
place it at the top with the dates for early, high and late in the files named early, high or late. Those files are in the campmap/startpos directory.
I'm typing off the top of my head so forgive any small mistakes please, I'm pretty sure of the syntax though.
Just to give you a little more details. I also recommend that you copy the "startpos" folder to some where safe and keep it as backup incase something goes wrong or you just want to go back to the original.
The text files are in "your MTW Directory\campmap\startpos\"
There will be one text file for each era. You only need to change the one for the era that you play most. The text files don't need to have the same info. The change only effect new campaign that start after the change is made.
Code Sample //========================================
//Start Date
//The year in which this
//campaign will begin
//========================================
SetStartDate:: 1087
SetGameEndDate:: 1687
SetPeriod:: EARLY
SetEarlyPeriodStartDate:: 1087
SetHighPeriodStartDate:: 1185
SetLatePeriodStartDate:: 1301
//========================================
[/QUOTE]
that's how I changed mine. What I did was:
- Insert a new line under the SetStartDate:: 1087 line.
- Copy the SetStartDate:: 1087 line to the new line.
- Change Start to GameEnd and change the year. Then save.
Note: the space between the :: and the year is one tab.
How service-minded http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
The exact placement of the enddate-line is irrelevant. I have it behind the SetLatePeriodStartDate line and it works fine. Dunno if caps matter btw?
If you get it wrong you won't get to start a game in that era, so you don't have to play a whole game to test if you got it right.
EDIT: Somehow I had a frowny-face on this post - all gone now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have done this and now my game crashes when i get to the main menu.... not sure if its caused by changing the enddate cause i changed it back to normal and now the game still keeps crasing.

Now it would be a good time to pull out all those backed-up files and put them in place of those you've been tampering with and then try again all over...
You have backed them up, right?

I can't remember, but check at the top of the vikings-file in the startpos-directory. I'll bet it's at the top of the file - I'm sure you can figure it out on your own.
And too bad about the crashes, it comes with modding. Reload the backup and start again, maybe making few changes at the time and see if you can start MTW with each.
Same folder, there will be a file called Viking.txt. For Viking, the SetGameEndDate line is already there. You only need to change the date. The year setting part in Viking.txt is just a little further down compare to normal MTW era, since the Devs add some more instruction for each part of the text file..
For minor change like this, I've not experienced any crash. The worst I've got was either the game failed to load or it won't progress to higher era.
If you do the editing in Notepad, check the Wordwrap option. You must maintain the original format of the text file. It's "tab-seperated" data file.

I have completely reinstalled mtw and vi , to my surprise it was still crashing at the main menu.I disabled zonealarm pro and tried it again and problem gone....
Heh - sometimes the problem isn't what you think.
Now - get to modding and create your own crashes

Believe it, it's not about zonealarm..........
Turn it off, and "YOU'LL BE SORREEEEEE........."
Well, at least don't mail ME anything, eh?

Then what is it then , i get to the main menu and suddenly the game crashes without editing anything.
I take it games started with the old enddate won't be effected? I had a campaign as the French and I finally destroyed the Muslims.... always my primary goal in this game, to liberate our stolen lands from the Jihadist terror... anyway... I digress. I changed the enddates, but game still ends as normal.
I guess I need to start a new campaign?

Yes, you do.
Some changes in overall will effect the game you are playing too, but most of them will effect only the newly started games...
But there are many campaigns ahead of you still... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

I tried changing the end date to give myself more time to conquer every province but when I went to start a new game the early era hasd disappeared. Can someone explain why?
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Gazza~
Specifically, no; not w/o more info~
I'd suggest a recheck of the lines you changed against the original files, looking for your changes for comparison.
Sounds like it 'might' be a bad over-write of the startpos file, eh?
Just a thought~ http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif Good Luck, eh?

Check your EARLY text file, spelling, capitals, everything, you've probably messed up there. I recommend though that you put back our original early text file back, start the game, see if you can start in early, and if yes, than go back and add the ending date of the game as shown before.
Believe it or not, one left out letter can or a capital can make that the entire era doesn't work. Been there, done that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
For game in progress, you may want to try MTW_julien_year1454_limit_fix (http://www.3ddownloads.com/strategy-gaming/totalwar/Tools/MTW_julien_year1454_limit_fix.zip)
If the link doesn't work, try look around in tools section at MTW DL area.

I got it working now guys, now I just have to play through a campaign to see if it actually worked. Thanks for the help.
This is what I put in my each of my files (this is copy/paste... which I just copied/pasted from the above post anyway). I tried with 2 spaces and also with a TAB but still no luck. My game in progress ends and SO DOES A NEW ONE
Really frustrating. I was kicking some serious butt, having totally removed the Islamo-fascists and reclaimed the Byzantine empire, having liberated the Christian birthlands...
Anyway.... any ideas? I want to finish this one Those damned Spanish need to feel my wrath. ( hate it when an ally turns on you for no reason...)

No you dont
As I said - you won't get to play in that era at all if you get the spelling or syntax wrong. It will work if the era of the modded file appears on the list of campaigns.
btw keep your backups in another directory, or you'll see two campaigns with the same name on the list.
